That form 1 selection for this year was an absolute sham! Most counties (and districts) couldn't get their best students to good schools.

Number of students picked and their home districts (For a National School in Nairobi)

1 - AWENDO, BARINGO NORTH, BUTERE, EMUHAYA, GARISSA, GATUNDU SOUTH, IMENTI NORTH, KAHURO, KANGEMA, KATHONZWENI, KEIYO SOUTH, KEIYO, KIRINYAGA WEST, KISII CENTRAL, KISII SOUTH, KITALE MUNICIPALITY, KONOIN, KURESOI, KYUSO, LAIKIPIA EAST, LAIKIPIA NORTH, LARI, MAARA, MANGA, MARAKWET WEST, MATHIOYA, MBITA, MBOONI EAST, MIRANGINE, MOLO, MSAMBWENI, MT. ELGON, MUHORONI, MWINGI CENTRAL, NANDI CENTRAL, NANDI EAST, NANDI NORTH, NJIRU, NYAMIRA NORTH, NYANDARUA NORTH, NYERI SOUTH, NZAUI, RACHUONYO NORTH, RONGAI, RONGO, SABATIA, SIAYA, SOTIK, STAREHE, SUBA, TESO SOUTH, THIKA MUNICIPALITY, TRANS NZOIA EAST, UGENYA, VIHIGA

5 - WESTLANDS

6 - ATHI RIVER, NAIVASHA

7 - KAJIADO NORTH, KISUMU MUNICIPALITY

8 - NYERI CENTRAL

9 - KIRINYAGA CENTRAL

10 - MUMIAS

11 - KAKAMEGA CENTRAL

12 - KASARANI

13 - RUIRU

22 - EMBAKASI

TOTAL - 257

Surprisingly, 182 are from private schools and 75 from public schools.

I now understand why governors are clamouring to devolve education so that schools in their county can admit more students from that county.

Very sad. They are messing up young kids who worked so hard.

There are 50 students from Nairobi county alone! Why?!

3 from Murang'a county. 20 from Kiambu county.

The entire Coast Province has 2 students, and only 1 student from North Eastern.

Could the problem be that, when we see Kiambu we assume that all are Kikuyu? It might not be the case.

I think I said it here, this Kaimenyi chap has to be the posterboy for incompetence.

My nephew scored 331 marks. Did not get a calling letter even from a harambee school. Something was seriously messed up this year.

I also know a girl who scored 401 marks and did not get a calling letter and all because she was in a private school.

Sad. For how long will kids be punished for doing well in private schools?

I wonder. Instead of addressing the problem that has made even poor parents to squeeze the last of their resources to take their kids to private academies, namely poor quality in public schools, we are busy punishing them for daring to invest in their children's education. Bearing in mind the secondary schools from which they are restricted are public, built with public funds, does this mean their parents are second-class taxpayers ama hawalipangi tax?
