Dressing- I think we all have a right to comment from here to Timbuktu and back as to whether KU or any other university should or should not have a dress code. However, much as you may or may not like it,only one group has the right and authority to decide who should. The KU administration. If the KU VC and admin thinks and says there should be a dress code,it doesn't matter whether it's uniform or not. If you don't like it,please exercise your democratic right and leave the campus. Find another one that doesn't. It's not upto you or anyone else to decide what the students should wear. The admion decides. You either do it or ship out. People are claiming that she slapped them with exams the day before. That's a lie and it's from the depths of hell. Before anyone condemns me as a Bible-thumping,undemocratic,misfit who doesn't understand how to lead people,I'll beat you to it. Go look for additional descriptions coz I DONT GIVE A &^%$# . Everyone knew, well in advance when the exams were and those who were serious, prepared for it.
the KU admin is perfectly right to say by when you should register for classes. It helps with management. particularly so because this happens in every properly ruin institution.
People, that's how the world runs. On rules.
Unfortunately, the intelligent think that everyone else is.Tragically, the obtuse believe they are intelligent.

for all of you saying that there are other ways of addressing problems, the Ku VC stated that she does not negotiate with students And that she does not recognize the student union. She went ahead to disband the student union, unlawfully suspend its leaders through an illegal special senate, and declare that exams would be done at all costs, after been served with a 3 day strike notice. Please show the other options. http://gramware.blogspot.com

@oblongblong why should the university accept money if it will not register you for the exams. and why should you be examined in a unit which you havent sat a CAT while the RULES say that you must sit for 2 CATS and an exam. http://gramware.blogspot.com

A chic jumped from her room on first floor to the ground, and in the process lost her legs as she was fleeing from Police, who had forcefully gained entry into her room.. There are allegations of sexual harrasment by the police. What are her rights?
The last time KU striked,my cousin was seated in my house reading for her exams. Then she was told she has to pay Kshs. 2000 for damages. Reminds me of a strike in Juja that was a hard time for most students - running away from police while carrying all your belongings, simply because some students burnt a few chairs from the VC's office...
There are very many innocent young students who will suffer for the acts of a few violent students. How many students lost their stuff in Nyayo? Many.. How many students will prolong their lives in campus longer than necessary? ALL. The fact is violence should not be condoned for whatever reason in the society.. It never solves any issues. And therefore,if any of those few were caught performing acts of violence, let them be punished according to the law.
I think the admin should consider amicable ways of solving problems. the problem is that they dont even recognize the students concerns as relevant issues, and by turning a deaf ear to them, they fuel the catastrophe.
That said,Violence is never a solution,In fact, most battles are never worn in the battlefield, they are worn in the boardrooms and 'situation' rooms. If you destroy someone else's property illegally, then you have already lost the battle.

@skylat
at last an opposing view with a real argument.
Please note that I did not condone the violence. I have been very clear that the perpetrators of this hooliganism should be arrested. The question that begs to be answered is 'exactly who are the hooligans?'
If the police can find whoever burned the hostel, please let them go to jail. However,do you really and honestly believe that the police were engaging in any type of investigations once this old woman let them lose on females in their halls of residence?
This is what I know about the Kenya Police
They shoot anyone willy nilly (video evidence even on youtube) They have been known to cause fires with their tear gas canisters They lie even with evidence of a video The KU Woman was properly trained by the commish on the tactics of lying on TV
You may forgive me if I have my misgivings as to actual things that happened at KU. What I saw on TV were students dragged from their rooms and beaten by the police. According to ectacy, that is a civilised society. I am sorry ectacy that kind of behaviour is only condoned by goons masquarading as people with an iota of thought.
Having been to campus, you know very well the dangers that abound to innocent students when the police are let loose on students. Obviously this woman has no clue what she is talking about when she said that she is doing it for the sake of the 'good' students of KU. Skylat and others, violence should be met with the proper tools too. You should arrest the hooligans and leave the other innocent students alone. Or are you saying that everyone who was in KU on that day is a hooligan?
It is this argument that allowed posting that all Luos are violent minded by someone who has the ability to type.
Ladies and gentlemen. All KU students were not on riot yesterday contrary to what that woman is saying. The police should stop shooting Kenyans when they fail in their duty to protect people. The old people especially on this board should stop calling the young ones stupid.
no civilised person can take pleasure in beating, raping and killing a member of their society. Who is the uncivilised one here?
That woman is probably the biggest single cause of all the damage caused in that college. Let me give you a heads up about her next interview. She was incharge of a college that participated in the biggest riot in the history of Kenya.
Everytime she opens her mouth she is lying. I am sorry to disappoint the 'old, wise' people of this board. That woman is as guilty as the hooligan students in that riot. If she comes back with that attitude, she will lead to the complete disentegration of that college as you know it. She reminds me of one guy pretending that nothing bad goes on outside a certain house.

@willy,no matter how inhuman I may sound, that should send a message to the marauding students,a small minority who wil make others suffer big, ama? Truest proverb: Mwenda pole hajikwai TULIA.........UFUNZWE!

I pity parents. I would not mind about these quacks in the name of students and administration, both of whom could choose blame game and war instead of amicable means, both of whom call themselves scholarly, then pass on the cost buton to the parent. Shameful, very shameful. The economic realities now do not favour such showdowns. Kuna njaa. Bei za bidhaa ni maradufu. Then some fellows I am maintaining along Thika road quarel and ask me to meet all costs, every cent of its effects.

I read this with a lot of amusement.....The buildings were twenty years old and had depreciated to nil value..........aiii....Nobody said so and even then,do you use marauding students to bring down an old building?.....At this rate,we may argue, since your granny is an 80 years old piece of human which has lost value (Depreciated to nil value),then you have a right to murder her..!!!........hah?....It's April fools day though...! It is amazing how intelligent people here have conveniently chosen to abandon reason so as to advance a certain partisan argument whose motivation is clear-bias. Sadly there can never be a case for marauding students who leave a trail of destruction in their wake. We can plead fairness all we want but the fact of life is such that it is never fair. Cops are human too and can easily be provoked....As for the students in custody, their guilt or innocence is a matter of determination by our courts of law. Besides ranting and raving about the authorities at KU what solutions do you propose? IT occurred to me that most of the bile discharge here is done by Kenyans is very safe havens......sadly you can effect very little change from up there....often times you are at odds with the reality here. On students....its time students did some growing up...realized that times have changed and with them opportunities have diminished. The sense of entitlement that we used to have while in college should make an exit and in its place should reside a growing need to reassess, repackage, remodel and realign oneself for the global competition.Maybe those Kenyans in the diaspora could help here by advising them on just how much. Make money.....then you will enjoy all the fine things in life!!! ..."Wewe ni mtu mdogo sana....na mwenye amekuandika pia ni mtu mdogo sana!".

If you cannot see a common thread of impunity in both the KU riots and PEV I suggest you discuss matters you are more conversant with.

How do you suggest cops should have contained the hooligans and thugs in their midst who were burning property and jeorpardising other student lives ? Come for names in the morning? I'm sorry, this is not primary school. It may come as a shock but adults answer to the full force of the law.

Apparently, the student who was shot was not shot by the police... he was shot by a fellow student. I wouldnt doubt it given that we had this criminal in THE that used to be a thug by the night and had guns in his possession.
Even if it was untrue, the students themselves gave the police a chance to blame them on anything... in any case, they dress like thugs...

Wow! Lets all jump and down with glee as another student dies and another luo is out of this earth.....I am sure this will stop all future student riots......Sometimes I wonder about people on this forum. remember that the vice chancellor was aware of the pending strike, but chose to force all students to report to do exams for an in complete semester so that the school based and trimester huge incomes would not be missed. Despite high tension, she went on to personally sign notices (something she has never done) guaranteeing the security of students and acknowledging she knew about the strike. Her idea of security was letting loose armed policemen who engage students in fierce shooting from 7 pm to 2 am. She was clearly not interested in the tension,as her eyes were set on the expected incomes in april and may. ku is more of a business than a university. To complete the business transformation, there is even a proposed dress code. http://gramware.blogspot.com
