Union officials and Cabinet Secretaries for Devolution Ann Waiguru and her Health counterpart James Macharia, made the announcement at 11pm in the night following lengthy discussions to end the stalemate.
The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentist Union Secretary General Sultani Matendechero predicted a fall out within the unions after most of their demands were not met. IT IS STILL ON my frien reports of a deal are nothing but hearsay.

Current state-20 min ago by M.O Quote:STATE OF THE UNION ADDRESS:
Ladies and gentlemen, gallant warriors of our union. It is yet another time that we beg for leadership. This is a union with structures and a constitution and in the event of a vacuum of leadership we have people to take care of that.
As we are all aware, rumours are spreading all over and I don't think it should take more than 8hours for the Sec Gen to come forth and direct his soldiers.
Due to the vacuum created by this lack of leadership I propose we move forward as follows:
1. Dr. Abi Mwachi who is the deputy secretary general to take over the position of Ag. Sec Gen and call for an urgent SDC
2. Dr.Matendechero Sultani Matendechero to honourably step down and disown any agreement signed with the government.
3. The strike is still ON until the MEMBERS agree in consensus to call it off.
4. This is our union and it is the only thing we have. Sultani is such a hardworking and dedicated fellow, I wonder why they are still disgruntled. Not suprising though,It's all politics.

Its quite unfortunateif they can not even speak as one at this crucial moment. Govt will just see an opportunity n strike it when hot with a divide n rule hammer. Maybe they are suspect matende ha been given some tea to shut up.

The CS Health says they finish the transfer of payroll function to counties today and that medics will be paid in time. He says they'll hold a consultative meeting with the unions too. Life is like playing a violin solo in public and learning the instrument as one goes on.

Health care has been effectively devolved to counties. Governors are paying MoH salaries for Jan going forwards. I foresee problems when Med students graduate. Who will employ them? Who will pay them? Also, who pays for Post-Graduate training of doctors? Set out to correct the world's wrongs and you will most certainly wind up adding to them.

The sooner this devolution monster is disbanded the better. Counties need professional CEOs with performance contracts administered by the national governmment and not clueless politicians

Looks like the worst is finally here. So far, Baringo, Marsabit and Laikipia counties confirmed to have cut health workers' salaries by withdrawing some allowances. No explanations as yet. Life is like playing a violin solo in public and learning the instrument as one goes on.

No explanations as yet. I don't think the doctors have seen anything yet. Mambo bado. It will get really ugly. When I finally understood what this whole devolution means I must say I totally sympathized with the doctors. It is however a monster that is now in the house that they must learn to live with. In summary this is what it means. Now that the function of health is devolved it means that the decisions on how to allocate resources for matters health fall squarely with the county governments. Each county in its own wisdom will have its own priorities. County assemblies are made up of the local people and they would just as an example wonder why you need a hardship allowance to live in their county when they have lived there all their lives without any problems. Depending on how remote a county is everybody from a nurse to a clinical officer to a surgeon are all Daktari so why would one be earning 5 times what the other earn. You might be in a county where the county cabinet secretary of health is a former clinical officer or lab technician and the county assembly is full of local businessmen from butchers to matatu operators. As a doctor you will need to justify to these people why you need some expensive hospital equipment to do your job. There is no National activism on matters health anymore, medical personnel will have to engage their respective counties separately. Talk about Kizungumkuti.

I must say the health professions(and many of us) slept during the revolution. We have to live with it, since we never digested the import of each clause in the constitution.
