What I want to understand is the nature of references because that's what we use to give meaning to stimuli.Such a 'template'(although idealistic) is elusive because it eventually leads to trying to understand reference without using references.

No, to understand the nature of references from your perspective is to misunderstand the nature of the stimuli. This is what causes confusion. To understand the references and their use from the standpoint of the speaker, the core of their emanations as you said earlier is key.

No, to understand the nature of references from your perspective is to misunderstand the nature of the stimuli. This is what causes confusion. To understand the references and their use from the standpoint of the speaker, the core of their emanations as you said earlier is key. I've become quite familiar with confusion I'd say that's the point.How to independently define stimuli without misrepresenting it and understanding the 'thinking component'.A good example,how do those born deaf think without a voice in their head?
