Quote:I think the U.S has a fairly good constitution I say that because only 27 amendments have been made since 1789, and only once in the last 40 yrs. You are going a bit too far by saying USA is not a democracy. Please show me a country with perfectly fair representation. I suspect all constitutions have shortcomings and ours is no exception. What we need to do is to continue debating and amending where necessary. At the end of the day we should not let perfection be the enemy of the good.
Senators are being paid Ksh 1 million per month. Kenya a poor country cannot afford such nonesense.
Around 2006-2007 I spoke with a chap who was running for Parliament. I asked him why and he said it was 100% for the money and he had little to no interest in anything else. Most Kenyan MPs are of similar ilk. So now we have an unproductive parliament and we add insult to injury by adding an unproductive senate ?
And please do not compare USA to Kenya. We are an immature democracy. Those people (USA) vote on issues and there is no rigging. A senator who does not perform to his constituents liking will not be re-elected. Kenya's democracy is not just immature. It is a joke. I guarantee that most senators will have accomplished nothing by 2017 and their re-election will not be based on performance or any contribution.
Imagine a job where you are paid a fortune for literally doing nothing.
It is no wonder that Kenya's parliament is so unproductive. In fact it was more productive during the one party Nyayo days.
