@enigma - no one held a gun to our respective heads though certain mobs which had many heads and no brains did watch KTN in 2007-2008 and read the standard - then heeded the calls not just for civil disobedience but to ask for their 'rights' - then they looted or burnt people's property. I can unprogramme it from my TV set,but as long as someone else is spreading propaganda and hatred, and someone else is heeding that propaganda it will invariably affect me (and you and everyone)....does that make sense? How will NOT watching help me or you?

The Tutsis who were slaughtered after the FM station called the Hutus to war - tell me they were ONLY affected because they tuned in. Please increase the depth of your arguement.

The problem with equality is that we desire that it be with those that have more than us rather that those that have less

@djinn...i feel the anger in ur tone...howver,ul agree that ''irresponsible media coverage'' is a matter of opinion..

i would argue that without ktn,we wdnt have known the elections were being stolen...I dont believe the violence was as a result of the ktn coverage....pple with TVs stayed at home...poor pple went to war....they had planned it n ktn hd nothng to do with that...

i believe your view is myopic...and i respect that u think mine is too.Difference of opinion...live with it.

This topic is about media ethics and whether or not KTN as a media station acted responsibly in arrogating themselves of the role of 'informing' the aged parents of their son's sexual orientation then making the parents reaction a prime time news headline. period.

djinn,it seems that your criticism of ktn is rather subjective going by your last post. interestingly i watched most tv stations during the period following the bungled 2007 elections (from whichever side you look at it,bungled is a very polite way of looking at it) and i do not see how ktn encouraged killings and all that. so when one comments on ktn being the best station in kenya to dismiss that person as an alien based on that subjective measure is rather misguided to say the least.

LOL... Kenyans... The TV station (KTN) makes money. Why? Because Kenyans watch KTN & advertisers know it... So don't complain... just dont watch it...
*** News - I think over time the internet will become more important for us. I do not worry about watching the news anymore. Why? I get the info online from various sources!

mozenrat, not everyone is a star wars fan. and to equate lack of knowledge of a fanboy movie (provided a good) to one's opinion on a tv station tempt me to put you in the same category with.... remember what kituyi once said about one unionist? that one about everytime he opened his mouth?

I know someone close who that happened to. I think it is always better to tell someone the truth. In case that info leaks to the mother in one way or another, you just can’t imagine how deceived she will feel

KTN should not give anyone shocking news and then film the reaction. That is just plain mean. Who are those reporters and cameramen who covered the story? I hope they do feel guilty about it.

If ethics in journalism is not clearly defined then could 'journalists' please use their conscience. For some reason this reminded me of the photographer who took a picture of a dying child with a vulture hovering and did not help the child.
