Much as I have come to dislike these devolved units, I hereby stand in defence of Kilifi county govt for purchasing the 140m mansion.

1. I have seen some counties proposing spending close to 400m esp nyanza n wesdan.

2. It's a one off buyout. It would have been bought either way, sooner or later, n the sooner the better.

Well, this is a simplistic way of looking at it. It can be that because of the finger( swollen, rotten, disfugured, useless etc) the arm is unable to function.

I am happy

Senators are useless and accomplish nothing in the Grand scheme of things. The senate should be abolished along with women's representatives. The money being spent on senators and womens reps would be better spent on development.

But county governments are a God send. Now people can actually decide for themselves what they want in their area. The days of government refusing to develop some areas as political retribution as Kenyatta and Moi did are gone.

Governors like Mutua are setting a sterling example. If other governors do not follow suit, they will find themselves in the cold come 2017. Eventually many years from now, Kenyans will have learned their lessons are at least half the governors will be competent people. What you see now are growing pains.

Something really needs to be done about our counties. Millions being spent on foreign travel yet they are threatening to lay off seconded staff. This wastage needs to be stopped urgently

If you think foreign travels and big motorcades are a problem, wait till you see the wastage in offices that is out of public view. This however does not mean we do away with the Counties. All we need is to do away with the crooks, merge the senate with the pigsty and reduce the number of Pigs to a maximum of one hundred. While at it do not forget to do away with roles and positions duplicated in National and County governments. Why should we have a government public health officer and a county one in the same locality.

Senators, Mps and Governors are like a three legged stool. Take one off a devolution becomes a cropper.
If you stay ready, no need to get ready.

In defence?
1. Person A wasted less cash than person B, so Person A's wasted money is okay???
2. Person B or their successor would have wasted money anyway so they might as well blow the cash right now, when it's most desperately needed!

Who says this is a one-off?
a) The facilities are not necessary. Governor does not need to entertain anyone and hold meetings in their house, that's what offices and conference facilities are for!
b) Every successor will spend North of KES50MM on renovations / fumigation / updating equipment, so again not a one-off
c) Also likely that a successor would say that the property is unnecessary and then auction it off at a throw-away price!
