All Kenyans pay 30% tax from earnings from their careers/occupations. Why should athletes be exempted?

As long as hey are not subjected to double taxation. Some of those countries where they compete in have very mean KRAs. Eg French President Hollande wants to tax top earners 75% tax rate so if you earn 1 m they swallow 750,000 and you remain with only 250,0000.How now?

How special are they not to pay taxes?

If they [athletes] think they do me a favor by competing, how about they hang those boots!

Wapi @murchr awaambie "kulipa ushuru ni kujitegemea"?.

But then again, what prize money qualifies for taxation?

If one wins say London marathon and they are taxed in the UK, it would be double taxation to charge anything on that prize money.

Which leaves us with the likes of Ndakaini marathon,KPL and endorsements.

Athletes, just like anyone else earning their income as a resident in Kenya should pay taxes. It may seem a huge demand to ask them pay a tidy sum of the millions they earn. But the rate applicable is still 30% as is the case with anyone else. If they are not for it,as @mkeiy says, let them hang their boots. On the other hand, I must have read and believe as well that KRA will take/takes into account taxes paid overseas so as to avoid the issue of double taxation. But proof for such taxes paid overseas has to be provided.

Tax is paid where earnings are made.

You make your money majuu, you pay tax majuu. NOT here in Kenya.

Athletes monies from majuu should NOT be taxed.
