Are these protests spontaneous or is there a hand behind them? Every day these days there is a protest in a certain country. Meru, Kiambu, Mombasa, Nakuru...What is happening?

If there's a hand, then it's the 'invisible hand'. County governments are going against the markets and protests are what they deserve to get.

But this is Kenya. We should also think of "who would benefit if the devolution doesnt work?"

Some of them are protesting because "they have been told to leave the streets".

Yes. This is Kenya, and the market is on the streets. Telling people to leave the streets is removing them from the market that feeds them.

Devolution won't work because county officials don't seem to appreciate the task before them. And definitely the few who stand to benefit if devolution fails are those who already have power.

As much as i feel for the traders this issue of doing bizna in streets is not the best way, thats where most thugs hide themselves and more so these guys dont pay any taxes yet they use the facilities and depend on gava for security and so on. In any case county gavas should build where these guys shd carry out their activities. I wish they asked Kagame how in rwanda everyone transacts bizna in markets and how to do it like that. Or waende huko wajionee wenyewe

That issue of operating from the market is what angers most of them. But even us buyers prefers on the streets because its "convinient". Its a complex issue. It needs deeper thinking and I doubt the street fights we are seeing are a solution.

The best alternative to the street is the cyberspace equipped with an efficient delivery and exchange system.

And making county officials 'social entrepreneurs'.

The hawkers are pawns in a fight pitting MPs' and Senators' against Governors, and sometimes MCAs'. How come majority of the demonstrations there is MP(s)/Senator(s) sharing the sentiments of the street vendors?
If you stay ready, no need to get ready.
