Patrick Karegaya (a Tutsi to boot), former Rwanda head of intelligence, who allegedly was the man who chased Hutu genocide suspects and nailed them was found dead, apparently strangled on New Year's day in a luxurious Jo'burg Hotel. He had gone to meet a Rwandan businessman and family friend who was supporting his opposition party. Karegaya fell out with PK in 2003 over Rwanda involvement in DRC where he was accused and inducted by a Spanish judge for having received $800,000 worth of stockpiled minerals exported to Rwanda from DRC. In 2005, PK got Karegaya held in solitary confinement, in an unofficial lock-up in a disused factory west of Kigali for 6 months. He was released but asked to apologize and'prostrate himself' before PK. He refused and he was accused of committing a petty offense, charged of insubordination and jailed for 18 months. When he was released in November 2007, he escaped house arrest after fearing for his life. He fled to TZ and was given asylum in SA alongside Nyamwasa Kayumba, the former Army Chief of Staff.
In 201, together with Gerald Gahima, Rwanda's former prosecutor and his brother, Theogene Rudasingwa, former ambassador to Washington, they launched an opposition movement. They accused PK of war crimes, crimes against humanity and oppressive government. A Rwandan court sentenced them in absentia to 20-25 years imprisonment

A friend of mine from Rwanda shares:

Right now Rwanda is tense, it is a major shock, a fulfillment of prophecy - PK ni Kusema na kutenda. He was the brains behind the most dangerous threat to PK, winning UN contracts to train armies to some $5m a month, when you have the brain and data that was in Karegeya's head you had to use him or kill him. Born in UG to Banyarwanda parents, he attended Makerere and studied law, when he briefly ran NRM cell in Lumumba hall he was arrested by Obote and jailed for 3 years. He still ran his intel network from jail, and some say he sent himself to be arrested to continue network for M7, he was released in 85 and rejoined M7 in the bush, had all the inside info to take Kampala. When M7 set up ISO and ESO internal and external he chose Mugisha Muntu - Internal Kagame - External and Karegeya his deputy. They shared a house with Tumukunde in which all 4 branches of intel worked together. When RPF attacked, M7 was not ready, the Rwandan soldier had jumped the gun, and suffered. PK was on a course in USA and had to come back. The war took 4 years but Karegeya never fought and stayed in NRA, as Anti-smuggling Unit head, a demotion but lucrative for bribes, skimming and it allowed him to slide tonnes of arms into Rwanda to help RPF. Now Karegeya is Munyarwanda but never Rwandan, he never claimed ancestral land here but claimed in UG that was Greater Rwanda back in the day, so like millions others he claimed tribe, culture, language but not land. In 1994, in a bid to restore the Tutsi population that was killed we allowed anyone with Rwanda blood to return as was the main motto of the RPF. This brought back Ugandans, TZ, Congolese, Burundian, tutsis of similar groups back like Israel in 48. So a Ugandan Karegeya was allowed to be Rwanda Intel chief, at the same time when a Rwandan was running UG intel, and these guys were 1st cousins.

He Continues:

So Kagame in 94 went to M7 and asked him for just two soldiers, he said he could trade 20 top officers to Kale Kayihura and Karegeya, M7 laughed his head off - those were the 2 best he had, the rest were just order monkeys, these guys could sort a situation discretely and the ship was smooth. He was told to choose one, he chose his former housemate Karegeya, if not Karegeya would be UG intel/police chief now instead of Kale and Kale would be no.2 in Rw. Karegeya was not involved in the 1990-94 war so he had a clean perspective, he was as gung ho as they get, dozens of suspects killed abroad, indeed many killers on the run handed themselves in to avoid him. He was too close to Kagame, the only guy who could joke and play with him, they just watched TV and laughed like kids, this angered every other officer in Rwanda. Karegeya was above the law, he was running the Congo war as a private enterprise but sharing of course. His rank of Lt. Col was just ceremonial but Generals feared him, he fed them. Word started getting around that Karegeya was hiding genocide suspects or taking hush money to leave them alone. There was an allegation of him sleeping with the daughter of the mastermind of genocide Felicien Kabuga and that he had restored their property in the millions of $. So the ring tightened around Karegeya, he was accused of plotting for Kayumba, Kayumba was sent to India as Ambassador and Karegeya was jailed. A litany of charges were thrown at him, the biggest one was "Wigize uwahatari" You've made yourself a danger. He was locked up, was meant to be killed but he played a clever game, he said he had a secret that Kagame needed to know, but never told it. He was starved, and the worst was his denial of HIV medication, like many of these top guys he enjoyed too much in the 80-90's. He was dying and was somehow forgiven, when he came out, all the other soldiers had scores to settle with him, more charges. He still had a fully-functioning network inside Rw they helped him escape via Qatar and Mauritius, onto SA

Part 3:

Kagame was turned against Karegeya by his cousin Dr. Emmanuel Ndahiro, he drove a wedge of paranoia into Kagame that made him more reliant on the Doctor as he became known. His rose from 2003 and many people had to make room for him. the Doctor inherited the vast intelligence Network of Karegeya who had levers in the UG intel, Kenyan Special Branch, ANC and Umkhonto, CIA, Mossad he set up the current DRC intel service, as well as southern Sudan services. Somehow by default all these 4 guys found themselves on the outside. Rudasingwa who was Kagame's Chief of staff, Gahima, his brother was his legal brain, Kayumba was his most trusted soldier, and Karegeya his best friend/confidant and Intel. It seemed like a plot, if at first they didn't collude, then they did now. They were all isolated, exiled or in jail, so with the 2010 election coming up the only threat to Kagame from within his party was Kayumba, still Amb. in India, when he returned for holiday they were waiting for him. His mother died and no one was allowed to bury her, he was confronted in a meeting and charged with plotting. He went home but jumped the fence and his spies whisked him away to the border with UG and he crossed on foot. These guys know Salim Saleh, Koretta, Katumba, Kale, since they were kids, it is not helping a treasoner it is helping a friend from childhood. So PK thought UG plotted with them but it was just friendship. He ends up in SA, denouncing the govt, sets up another party RNC using ANC ties. He was shot in 2010 by a squad suspected to be the same one which killed Karegeya. Headed by Francis Gakwere an amiable killer I have shared drinks with on many a night, he shot Kabila Senior at point blank range while pretending to hug him and climbed through the ventilation out. So these guys were an idle nuisance until they started to consort with the former Interahamwe in a cynical bid to get the Hutu vote. Saying Kagame started the genocide and he is a war criminal. Everytime a report was written the info was too correct and to the bone that they knew it was inside info. The Karegeya network was in full effect. Trying to kill Kayumba was pointless, yes he had a sterling record, but Karegeya was the brains and the money. He once bragged to a General "I pocketed $100m from Congo, what have you got? Just stars and stripes on your collar!!" If you had to make a list of people who wanted to kill him then it would be longer than a giraffe's neck

Currently:

So where we are now, after several days of silence, boom!! The Foreign Minister involved in a twitter fight with Karegeya's son saying he deserved to die but Rwanda had nothing to do with it. The president cancelled a major presser. They desperately want to go out and slander Karegeya who some are hailing as a hero. It looks so bad but they can't see it, the rage and vitriol is too much. Even in death they hate him, and they hate him even more. To see them desperate to admit it but they can't, they want to say "f*** it, we did it, he was plotting against us, so what?" But the fallout from that would be bad with donors and investors. This paves way for Kagame to extend the term limit and have a referendum by end of the year that he can win 99% and the show goes on.

The murder in question, Karegeya was so security conscious and was fearful during the world cup, and Mandela's funeral that he could be killed, he was being chased by the very same officers he taught to take advantage of such time windows. Two weaknesses in Karegeya were lethal, women and money, power not so much, but those 2. An old friend called him called Apollo Garanga, they had done business in the past and he didn't think Apollo was a threat. They planned to book a hotel, get some girls, drink till morning. The room was booked on 28th but not occupied till 31st, he told his nephew that he was meeting an old friend and his phones went off at 20:37 on 31st, a do not disturb sign was put up. The police found the crime scene to be sterile, not a sign of anything, all evidence was forensically removed. Normally a hotel room with people coming in and out everyday will have DNA left behind. The only evidence is the security footage, this shows 4 men entering the room. 3 of these 4 have been arrested in Maputo, including Gakwere. So this will leave relations tense between SA and Rw, given the ties with ANC and Karegeya. He gave then inside info on how to defeat the M23, all kinds of secrets. This story is not over, we fear we might see revenge attacks, killings, it has definitely set us down another path that is not helpful

Was Kagame's victory a revolution? When killing the killers, how far can one go?

How many killings does one need to make, to escape the noose?

How can a man live forever? What's happening?

I can only empathize with Kagame. Man must sacrifice man on the altar. And the ultimate act is that one of self sacrifice. Suicide.

Thus goes the story of man. And one who seeks to 'liberate' must die. And his kingdom is that of death. But if he wants to live forever he must sublimate. Thus goes the thread of history and civilization, and rulers.

Arjuna must kill his uncles and cousins. But alas liberation comes when Krishna such sublimates the whole matter to holy Scripture. Thus have the holy books and moral guides of man written.

To be human is to cut your finger and write history with your blood.

If Paul Kagame uttered the words attributed to him here, then its saddening and real gross that a Head of State to can deal in such verbosity!

So sad what is happening to "dissenting voices" in Kigali.

Poor David, such a friendly, selfless man and this is what uncle Paul does to him?
