I saw an advert some time back on head lamp cleaning but can't quite remember the name or location of the company. I wanted to have the head lamps of my car cleaned - the yellowing that comes gradually with time (original head lamps - not Taiwanese stuff) - and I needed help from the SK family.

1) Anyone who knows where I can have it done?
2) Approximate cost.
3) Any known side effects/disadvantages of having it done?

SK Administrator - Why did you delete my earlier post on the same?
Never count on making a good sale. Have the purchase price be so attractive that even a mediocre sale gives good returns.

Guys,
Am not aware it's available in Kenya though i have seen it elsewhere offered alongside valet services.It's not rocket science and with the right compounds,a high speed drill and a polisher,you can do it at home.I can't remember the name of the compound but it's something like diamondite/diamonite........BTW,you may refer to the process as restoration and not cleaning.....and besides your lenses,you can can even eliminate scratches on your mirrors and windows and make them look like new....

I had my car cleaned for the same at Nbi West,behind Tamasha for just 400 bob. But that was before the cleaner's kiosks were demolished by city council earlier this year. They used special rubbing compound until the headlights were sparkling clean again. But despite the demolishions,the cleaners and mechanics still operate around and they may assist you.

@ jaribu. How long ago did you have them cleaned/restored? Are they still okay. I have visited the site given by @ the hawk and then called them. They are charging 4,500/= and the guy was trying to scare me ati I can go to some guys who'll charge me less but after approximately 2 months my headlamps will have deteriorated so badly I might be forced to replace them!!! I didn't know if I should dismiss that info as a sales gimmick or friendly advice. Knowing about your experience will help alot. Any contact person when I go to Nairobi west? The name or number of the guy who did it for you will help alot. Thanks.

I don't know how long they took to clean since i left the car to be washed as well then proceeded to knock some lagers at blackoak for some hours. What I know is that we had agreed the price and what was to be done and by the time I was leaving,they had done a superb jobbo. I sold the car 3 months later on but the lights were in great condition. I don't have any contacts but I know the same fellas still operate from the area although their kiosks are gone.

@MaichBlack I'm thinking just buy another lamp. This one could be old already and that's why it's leaking dust into the reflector.
How long before you go for the next clean up again. By then the money would have bought another new lamp with seals still intact.

@AlphaDoti,
You don't get it........Dust can be cleared by use of soap and water..........Water stains,scratches,fading mirrors and lenses can only be eliminated by polishing (Restoration).You don't have to fork out cash for new items when it's petty do it yourself things
