this is an article from 2010

Quote:
"I am not alone. The people of Soweto are still with me. Look what they make him do. The great Mandela. He has no control or say any more. They put that huge statue of him right in the middle of the most affluent "white" area of Johannesburg. Not here where we spilled our blood and where it all started. Mandela is now a corporate foundation. He is wheeled out globally to collect the money and he is content doing that. The ANC have effectively sidelined him but they keep him as a figurehead for the sake of appearance."

The eyes behind the grey tinted glasses were fiery with anger. It was an economic betrayal, she was saying, nothing had changed for the blacks, except that apartheid had officially gone. As she spoke of betrayal she inadvertently looked at a portrait of Mandela.

Oh yeah. He was alienated from the so we to masses thru the long lonely years in jail. The reality of the hardship in the slums and the daily betrayals of collaborators and sellouts was a ball game he didn't know as well as winning and her ilk.

Can one fight for, and guarantee another's freedom? Never.

Heroes are created in order to keep the masses in chains.

Such hogwash, which so called Buppies have remembered the South African masses when they get into power?

Even Zuma of the 'machine-gun dance' fame, who spurred the masses to oust Mbeki has shown his true colours. Manipulating the disadvantaged masses to get into power is a time-old trick.

Never say never. I wait for the world where Winnie's riling and Malema's indiscipline will do more for South Africa than Mandela's forgiveness and Mbeki's socio-market economy.

In private, Mandela had
already endured quite
enough conjugal torture. I
learnt of one especially
hurtful episode from a
friend of Mandela some
years later. Not long after
the end of her trial,
Winnie was due to fly to
America on ANC-related
business. She wanted to
take Mpofu with her, and
Mandela said she should
not, Winnie agreed not to,
but went with him
anyway. Mandela phoned
her at her hotel room in
New York, and Mpofu
answered the phone.
