The Deputy President suggested this for himself and the President all the way down. Let us see what happens in the end.

ABK!!!

These two suspects in fact don't need any Salary at all. Why spend billions in election campaigns if salary is the only motivation. But then again, they accepted to be boxed into accepting the huge Salaries and grants for the Mpigs and MCAs. Now we have borrowed from China to pay China Billions for the Chinese to build the railway.Sad

Goggles nazo??! What kind of burukenge reasoning is that? It is their constitutional right to earn a salary for work done.

Now as for what is in their control - Let them willingly take a salary cut if they forfeit their rights , freeze GoK increments and hiring (already done) and engage the opposition + constitutional bodies like the TA, CIC and SRC on how to fix this devolution wage bill.

They did engage the SRC - to increase the Mpig's Perks!!!

They engaged the SRC when MPigs from ALL parties ganged up and lay them hostage. YOU are the one who elected these MPigs!!!

When you are done venting, let us talk practical solutions.

Scaling down of Government wage bill is a welcome move.

This can be achieved through down sizing the pay roll and scaling down on perks.

I support.
Just as absolute power corrupts leaders, so does absolute fanaticism blind the people from logic

In the past 2 weeks, thousands of young people have graduated from the universities. These are lawyers, doctors, vets, engineers, teachers, accountants, etc etc. And now the govt, the biggest employer, has frozen employment, telling them there are no jobs. Did i hear during the campaigns Uhuruto saying that 'Hakuna kazi' signs will be replaced by 'Kuna kazi' once these young people elect the jubilee team? What future do all these young people have under the jubilee govt? Isn't this a return of the dark Nyayo days when retrenchments and hakuna kazi was the norm?

Is raising the pay of kanjoras from 79k to 283k pm part of the scaling down and downsizing?

We increased the number of politicians via the new constitution, now we have to sack the guys who do the work (Civil service) to maintain the politicians.

This is the problem with having ex-chicken sellers in power. They have never held a 8-5 job in their lives and thus don't know what retrenchment means for career civil servants and their families.

I dont think retrenchment is the way to go.The govenment should reduce the retirement age back to 55 yrs and let all those wazees to go home.

Unsubstantiated fact is that the civil services has over 30% employees above 55 yrs

There are civil servants aged 60yrs and above who are on "contracts". Absurd to think that the entire country doesn't have a younger person to take over these jobs. Case in point, the Director of Medical Services.

It is said, if the wage bill (and poor service delivery, rampant corruption, poor customer service etc) does not considerably reduce after sending the 55yr olds and above on retirement, the PSC will retire the 54yr olds, and then the 53yr olds and so on.

Recruitment into the civil service, unless for essential services (police, doctors, nurses etc), has been frozen.
Set out to correct the world's wrongs and you will most certainly wind up adding to them.

choices have consequences. We made this choice in 2010 when we voted in the constitution that @impunity calls activist katiba. We could attempt to change it, if media and civil society will allow us. But still, most structural changes will have to wait for 2018! Lord help us!!

I emphatically voted NO for the populist katiba and I'm yet to see any regret,if any!

When I see RAO rallying a bunch of nincompoops to vote enmasse for a populist katiba,a document he himself didnt believe in fully;I pitied my fellow countrymen.

Those old enough and went past two years of schooling will remember that RAO wanted a parliamentary system of gaament, but he decided to play "smart" by accepting the presidential system so that he could win the masses and be the PORK...ole wake!!!
