1. The media says that the fines are too high. Why fear the fines if what you report is truth..if you can support it with facts...if you are not "paid" by the "others" to spoil the "others" name in whichever way?
2. The composition of the dreaded committee...The law says it shud be independent of Commercial and govt interests. Why does the media want to handle it themselves yet they have direct interest commercially and otherwise? Further, the committee is made up of interested groups from all sectors, including KNUT. The govt representation is on the minority. How exactly is the govt gagging them? How would the minister gag them if his/her representation is on the minority?
3. Which other sections is the media against? I am also sure the media is an interested party in this and thus I dont expect them to tell us all the truth about what is happening. Is there an independent Wazuan with the facts who can enlighten me on these issues?
4. If in deed there are draconian sections, after how long can the law be amended in parliament? Is it 6 months? Maybe that would be enough time to have seen whether the laws really makes sense to the nation or not.
If I am enlightened on the above, I will be sure who is telling us the truth.
I actually agree with you for the most part.
Without the finer details, it remains tricky to take a position.
However, as concerns the levels of fines, - as a general rule I would argue that - fines need to be reasonable and relative to the wrong committed.
Of course on the one hand it is curious when the person thought to be the primary target for statutory regulation, starts whining about the suggested fines! Questioins are bound to arise about their motives and commitment not to deliberately break the law!
But then I peronally found myself very concerned over the new traffic rules where one risks a fine of up to 50K for such misdemeanors as overlapping of diverting via a petrol station to beat traffic!
