I don't think it's game over. I saw they've advertised for a new CEO.
I'm a share holder of KPLC and I think this ruling by parliament is the best thing to have ever happened to KPLC. They have no choice but to be efficient and I think under the now no-nonsense Jubilee govt. they have no choice.

As for barrier to entry, I don't think it's that difficult, GE or those Chinese companies can decide overnight to throw in a few billion $ and be up and running in no time.

A very serious audit is needed for any foreign investor wishing to enter this sector, people are not ready to pay much and the unwavering Kenyan patriotism might just make them unprofitable similar experience to what's happening in the telecoms sector meaning KPLC will eventually reign supreme.

BBI will solve it

The biggest barrier for an investor though is they'll be getting in an industry where people are not ready to pay much and might prove unprofitable for 'non Kenya' companies as we're experiencing in the telecoms meaning KPLC will eventually reign supreme.

There is the problem. Kenyans want cheap elec yet we dont produce enough. Penetration is only at 15%, there's money to be made in generating but not in distributing.

Those should be preference shares at 4% and 7% respectively. I stand to be "collected" though.

I think, at this time, i can state that 13.80/- is the lowest KPLC is hitting until FY2013 results. Any doubts?

Telkom is more Kenyan than Safaricom. I believe its innovation, marketin plus efficient service that wins over the client

Kenya Power has received a Sh3.3 billion loan from the French Development Agency (AfD) to partly finance connection of at least 300,000 new households.

Another reason i dont touch this stock.....
Kenya Power hit as unpaid electricity bills rise to Sh9bn

Quote:
Electricity distributor Kenya Power saw customer defaults rise to Sh9.1 billion in the year to June, piling pressure on the company’s finances in a period its profit fell by a quarter.

The rising bad debts come in a year Kenya Power saw its profits drop 24.7 per cent to Sh6.4 billion, a performance that saw the firm fail to pay a dividend for the first time since 2004 as high finance costs left it with a negative cash position.

A company in need of a serious management overhaul, very disappointing Sad

Looks like I will never get the dividend cheque this year. Anybody in the same boat?
Could somebody please give me the contacts for their registrar?

There was zero dividend this year. The acting MD is not empowered to issue dividends.

@2012 if the following statement "There was zero dividend this year. The acting MD is not empowered to issue dividends" is true then why did KENGEN issue yet they also have an acting MD

Lack of dividend was simply because KPLC IS BROKE.
