I see giant billboards of some sports people posted . I would be curious to find out which sports people were chosen. The only one I recognize is Wanyoike the blind runner.

Can't an independent valuation of the MISC Kasarani branding rights be done then we know what its worth? 55M does seem like pittance..maybe Sumsung could afford triple.. Let SMB advertise MISC branding and let the best bid win.

Am assuming 55M is for 2 years, so 27.5M per year. Thats over $300K per year of new revenue.
Not bad for a start, in 2 years time there will probably be a bidding war which other companies may come in and may substantially raise the price.

I hope Safaricom deal will enable us to get a world class pitch which we can play on when its raining.

if you ask me Moi has never ever paid anything for the Stadiums named after him so... 55m will 'buy a button'

Why wait 2 years when you could know what it's worth now is and deliver value? It's not a begging mission.

55m may be a pittance but there are no other offers so Safaricom's offer must be taken because it is the only offer on the table.

I am sure that if naming rights of Kasarani were more valuable, companies would be lining up to make an offer. You really do not need to advertize because naming rights is a common concept.

Because SSMB had advertised for it and am sure Safcom had the best bid.

Let SSMB come out and verifiably explain how they arrived at Safaricom as the winner of the branding rights to this national asset. This will help clear any doubts on the transparency and value of this deal.

Perfect. This is the right process. However, our MP,s cannot see this and are just talking about other silly things. When you have a President who needs reassurance to know he is President, he will name everything after himself. Thank God, we finally checked his term other wise may be we would be having a Moi Public Toilet on one of the street's in Nairobi.

Just heard on Citizen that other than the Kshs 55M, Safaricom was do to some rehabilitation and other improvements. The total deal is actually worth about 200 Million.

Yeah, heard the same on Citizen. It seems better than reported. However, the Chinese rehabilitated the place and handed over this year. So I'd be interested in other than a SCOM colors paint job, what else these 'rehabilitation' works SCOM talk about are?

NB: My previous query on process still stands.

Unless he lied in National TV, an official from SMB said clearly that they advertised and safcom gave the best offer...please listen to the youtube link at the beginning of this post and comment.

Good. Seems all procedure was followed. The issue is now with the Committee of Parliament and I hope they will not do the silly thing of rejecting it because the taxpayer will have to refund Safaricom for all the money they have used on the Stadium. Why is it that it is only URP MP's who are against it?

I believe this is a very positive step. Govts. have consistently failed in the upkeep of all sports facilities.

BBI will solve it
