I know this may seem weird but this is my first job interview in like 10 yrs so my skills in this are long gone.

I got an interview as a web developer in a Kenyan company and I'm at a loss at what is expected when one goes for one. To keep it short, how are interviews conducted in Kenya?

1. Dress code - don't laugh, our office dress code including interviews was strictly jeans.

2. How much are good web developers paid in Kenya? - It isn't very important as I have my own money sources but hate being underpriced.

3. About referees - I don't know many Kenyans having stayed out of the country for very long, can outside referees do? Does the quality of referees matter?

4. there is a stupid question that is always asked. How do you tackle them without looking greedy, cheap or just plain stupid?

a) tell us about yourself?

b) how much do you want?

For now that is all.

I have the interview tommorow afternoon and would be very happy to hear ideas. I haven't been in Kenya for some 10 yrs so you can consider me as a recent graduate who knows nothing about going for an interview.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for those but I was thinking more in the area of general interview questions. If someone asks me questions about perl,I will walk out as I am not interested in that. I would think that they didn't read my resume and were looking for experienced labor to pay cheap.

@ tahidi- Iam feeling sufficiently philanthropic with my intellectual product which I hereby offer. This is one topic I can discuss to the end.......bring up all those 'stupid' questions. Meanwhile....

1. Tell me about yourself:
The most often asked question in interviews. You need to have a short
statement prepared in your mind. Be careful that it does not sound
rehearsed. Limit it to work-related items unless instructed otherwise.
Talk about things you have done and jobs you have held that relate to
the position you are interviewing for. Start with the item farthest
back and work up to the present.

2. Why did you leave your last job?
Stay positive regardless of the circumstances. Never refer to a major
problem with management and never speak ill of supervisors,co-workers
or the organization. If you do,you will be the one looking bad. Keep
smiling and talk about leaving for a positive reason such as an
opportunity,a chance to do something special or other forward-looking
reasons.

3. Dress appropriately. Determine the dress code and meet it. If their dress is business casual, you still need to be dressed in business professional. Practice proper grooming and hygiene.

4. Shoes,of course,must be polished.

5. Wear limited jewelry.

6. Call the day before and confirm the appointment - it will set you apart.

7. Be certain that you know exactly where you’re going. Arrive in plenty of time. You should be at the receptionist’s desk 10–12 minutes before the scheduled interview.

Tahidi. How did it go because I'm in your shoes right now.Its over 10 years since I attended an interview.

It's butterflies all over.

Tahidi et al,

any feedback about the process, just clocked 10 years, with burnout and boredom setting in. Any advice??
