Which villages? Are there any villages remaining in lower kenya?

Well, we have a village complete with a busy shopping centre.
Anybody coming to the village is known cz the shop owners, riders, drivers, drunkards and idlers act as 'cid'

It's one place where your neighbour is as good as family and an enemy is fought by all.

What about places where nyumba nane kati ya kumi have criminals or criminal propensities?

I think the government has underestimated the crime levels in the country.

Are you surprised?

He is in the opposition and the work of the opposition is to oppose anything and everything.Ati he was not consulted. .......

his statements have no consequences. As said by DP, Nusu Mkate days are long gone. He will watch it sail through apende asipende. It should actually be voluntary for those interested in keeping their neighborhoods safe.

Some time back I remember Rao, Kibaki n Police Commissioner franked by several cabinet ministers in a rally launching community policing...whn the same is introduced in a different way, he leads his army in rejecting it. Ati ni a way of bringing back the police state...what about offering an alternative? The issue is to know your neighbour, call it whichever name. Reminds me of that terorrist who had lived in a house in Githurai and nobody knew him. Infact, evn b4 it was mentioned by govt, I rem some media houses had aired some stories on "How well do you know your neighbour". Personally I feel the nation needs to look at this issue soberly n agree which way forward...

Yes,but it does not make it a bad idea, the fact that some places can be extreme and need a different approach, does it mean the idea should be abandoned

this is what I see as opposition to NYUMBA KUMI
1. cultural issues
this is because we kenyans from the city have evolved a culture of not giving a rat's behind about our neighbours. how will this change?
2. we are irresponsible people who hate change
just because we pay taxes we think that we have delegated our well being to someone else. since we have paid taxes we assume that we somehow live in a utopian society. news flash - we don't. you need to take care of your own security and that is why you even get Maasais to guard your gate at night.

Instead of the government dealing with unemployment, diseases, recruiting of more police they are busy advocating this Nyumba Kumi..

It's useless.

Come to think of it, the police themselves are involved in criminal activities, what are they doing about that. The garment is running away from its responsibility. After you report a new neighbour, How're you going to repair the relationship?
