Konza city was termed as a Real Estate venture by @a4architect and almost 90% of Wazua? Is Machakos city another real estate venture?

@jamplu..konza city proponents, akina Ndemo were using public funds to venture into speculative, unviable real estate, hence wrong. For Machakos city, its very viable and its self funding i.e directly funded by the private sector hence will be a success. As Iron Sharpens Iron, So one Man Sharpens Another.

@a4architect did Mutua involve local architects and other players in the planning stage because i can remember that was one of your issues in relation to Konza. Secondly wazuans what criteria is the County using to award investors deals to invest there? Those who attended the investors forum what is the criteria to be an investor? Any wazuan who's investing within the 2000 acres wacha the 50*100 around!

Will I move to the new city just because it is bettter looking? Will I leave Nairobi's many services for new city's uncertainty? In Machakos, the land is free for what purpose? Can I go and ask for land in the city to construct a block of flats? Whatever the plan I hope my fears are unfounded and it works!

Many people adopt a pessimistic view of such ambitious visions. But, as someone put it, if you can see it, you can achieve it. Dr. Mutua has it on paper, and he has a point to prove to the too much negative energy and opposition around that what he has put forth is achievable. With the free land in the proposed city as an incentive, no wonder he has signed private investment agreements worth more than 2T. I do not see why such public-private partnership model is not achievable here whereas it has worked in countries like Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and next door in Rwanda.

Machakos city will work. The governor is serious about it, investors are on board and 2Tn is already in the pledge book, investors and the govt are on board. @wawinder - The NLC is very much involved and was at the launch and expressed their process. @  ! - As i understand it, most of the focus is for companies and institutions to set up shop there, but who knows, if you want to provide housing, go ask - you never know.People working in machakos city will need a place to live in , right? Before I die - i will touch the sky!!

konza was an attempt by some people to pretend to do ICT while actually doing real estate business. It was smelling from the start and will rot forever. Tatu and Machakos have all the goodwill and look up and up. After how the how it looks part, implementation matters and that is something no one can tell. Yeah...i foresee brief case companies being allocated prime land only for them to hold it with the aim of reselling it later at huge profits. Am surprised @mawinder with his briefcase Mawinder Investment Co. isn't already on the queue for free land hapo mayakos while hoping to make millions soon. Additionally our katiba bars even the president from allocating land.

In 1972, Thika superhighway was just a plan on paper drawn by someone who looked back into 1910 master plans and dreamt big.
Mutua is a dreamer and its not a bad thing. The city may take off slower than expected but its proximity to Nairobi makes it an easy sell as an entertainment and sports hot spot. Masaku 7s has already grown into one of the biggest events even though its not even on the 7s circuit. Its all about location. I am already looking forward to the Machakos carnival and the Machakos film festival

@murchir, in konza, ndemo used tax payer money to buy land then resell the same land which is bad for the economy. in machakos, Alfred mutua has not used any tax payer money to buy land hence not affecting economy in terms of land price, etc. In a capitalist govt environment, govt should not tax its citizens, then use the same tax to buy land from its citizens, then resell the same land. An economist would be in a better position to explain to you the economic effects of govt doing this. @jamplu. Since mutua is not using tax payer money direct from treasury to develop machakos city, he can hire architects from whichever country he deems fit. In the Konza situation, Ndemo was using our tax payer money direct from treasury to pay expensive american and British architects which is wrong for the economy. Machakos city looks like a genuine corruption free initiative compared to Konza which to date, will still remain a white elephant. Any money to be made in konza was for a few people and the money was made. Whoever lost their money will have learnt a good lesson on how to check viability of real estate investment . As Iron Sharpens Iron, So one Man Sharpens Another.
