It would be interesting to read your undergrad/masters/phd thesis. You always come up with good ideas on poverty alleviation and wealth distribution. If you've never been to an economics class, make sure you enroll soonest.

He doesn't have to enroll in class, sometimes school doesn't take out the best in us because we're conditioned to think in a particular way.

Will this city be economically viable? Who will be renting all that office space? Will companies be convinced to relocate from westlands, Upperhill etc to mayakos? Might this city end up being a white elephant? Also an an investor, would you put up your ksh 1B office block in westlands or mayakos?

Nairobi ni jina. At some point in time, all company HQs were in CBD. Now its upperhill and westlands. Tomorrow of tomorrow, it will be Thika, Mayakos na kwingineko. Question is, what makes Nairobi a favourite location? If Mayakos or any other city surpasses that, issue on relocation becomes when, not if.

If the Machakos City is supported by such infrastructure, WHY NOT?

But will the real estate mafia support? Wont it burst the real estate bubble in the capital?

the mafia would only be worried if the UN complex was to be moved - since that will not happen, machakos can benefit greatly if they were to actualize that project.

If: The success of the national government depends on the success of the counties

Then: I expect the Jubilee government to provide the necessary support facilities such as roads and railway link to Machakos which would in turn attract and assure investors

Consequently: The country would be closer to the double digit economic growth and Uhuru would also stand to gain some political goodwill from ukambani

@jag.......very, Nrb CBD is deteriorating fast...now most buildings are stalls. Upperhill....the roads will not attract anymore, its over-populated. Most ppl who work in nrb live out there...kiambu, thuka, machakos.

i think if alfie can work with kidero to build a reliable high speed train from Nrb to macha, then many companies may consider relocating to there, even investors in high residential estates may stop buying these overpriced land in nairobi and go for the free land in machakos

History. Machakos had been chosen by the British as a capital city until the hills made the Mzungu think twice. Then security was a major issue and they figured protecting Mayakos from an enemy onslaught would be hard courtesy of the hills...

Nairobi. The CBD started in River roadi. moved to west towards Tom Mboya before going further west of Moi Avenue.. It then shifted to Westlands and currently UpperHill which is already chocked.

However Nairobi is one chocked congested and unplanned piece of chaos that is running courtesy of maintaining our pride (im not just talking CBD here)
The forces that feed from it (real Estate Mafias) are the same ones that have held Nairobi. But with all forces in history. growth is necessary and change is inevitable. Nairobi can't hold any more. It's like a gold fish, its size is determined by the size of bowl its kept in.
For economic growth. Nairobi has to let go (devolve its strange hold on everything)only then can it also grow economically.

they are already the investors there.. they know how to observe the sands of time.. their crystal balls are accurate.

I know a few already, who are investing there. How do yo think it was possible for the court to throw out the land case and the president to be there at the launch?

I am just happy its is nearer Konza. It picks up.. we shall build the Runda's and Muthaiga's at Konza and environs... ;)

Konza, Tatu, now Machakos...planned cities aimed at pulling pressure from Nairobi? I sure do hope they all work but I'm sceptical! Economic activity should lead to growth of urban centres not the other way round. But maybe planned settlements defy this rule.
