What should be worrying people more is the tribal recruitment being undertaken at the county govt level. Every day am seeing various county govts publishing lists of shortlisted candidates in the newspapers and all individuals names appear to belong to the dominant ethnic group in the area. Does this mean 'non natives' who were born in those counties can never get jobs there?
In my case am not luo but I was born in Kisumu where my parents were working at the time, having been posted there by their employer. So if i would want to apply for a county govt position, i'd apply in Kisumu, my county of birth (as also indicated on my ID). But my name doesn't start with an 'O' and thus the chances on me being shortlisted are next to none. If I apply in my parent's ancestral home they may send me to Kisumu since that is my county of birth as indicated on my ID. This would also apply to all the non maasais born in Rongai, kitengela, Ngong, or non-kambas born in Athi river, syokimau, non-turkanas born in Lokichogio etc. Does it mean they can never get jobs in their county of birth and residence? I think we are balkanising the country.
