Ahem, make that 10 minutes, I have just downloaded my certificate with the official time. http://www.nairobimarath...lts/print-certificates2[/quote] That is why she got $500,000 while you got a downloaded certificate. That is not a bad time GG. Congratulations. What many people do not realize is that long distant races (except for elite athletes) is not a race against anybody, it is a race against yourself. The nervousness at the start, the first few kilometres when you are trying to get the right pace, sometimes realising you may have started too fast and are getting tired and wondering if you are going to make it, settling into a nice pace where your breathing is more relaxed and thinking you are doing just fine if only the turning point did not seem to be so far, trying to have a plan of how to take water, should I take the sponge or bottle, should I drink a little or pour it over myself, I think I may have drank too little, O God where is that next water point, the torture of little changes in elevation and thinking I drive here everyday I did not know there is a mountain here, thinking to yourself, what am I doing here, thinking that you cannot go any more yet you have not reached the halfway point but you keep going anyway because you can't stand being overtaken by all these girls, getting some energy after you make the turning point and then wondering again where all the mountains suddenly came from, seeing an old cucu running so slowly and clumsily that you would be tempted to laugh at her except that she is overtaking you, entering the stadium with every part of your body aching and getting a little energy for what feels to you like a sprint finish and collapse at the end thinking, I will never do this to myself again, yet wondering if next year you can get a faster time.

It is sad to see how warped our world view has become: some one wins a Marathon contest and all we can see is the money she will be paid; not the achievement she has made. Nothing is real unless it can be named; nothing has value unless it can be sold; money is worthless unless you spend it.

Her running style has become the talk of the internet. Its amazing that someone with such poor form can be such a good marathoner. She is on her way to becoming the Kenyan GOAT.

In fact all those big achievements always come with a money price tag, eg Nobel prize, Mo Ibrahim
