I don't know, to me it looks like a big fuss over nothing but you are right in that it can motivate a child to get into the next level. However, I have relas with kids and even they complain of how the school 'extorts' them for these sort of events. And lastly, if you tell a kiddo amegraduate coz of completing pre-unit si he/she will start thinking they have arrived, donge? What focus. Hawa watoto mayai. My first graduation was in Campus omera the.... na watu walikuja kwa Nissan and i was focused all along. We are spoiling our kids big time. Disclaimer: I have attended all graduations of my kids. Hiyo ni kazi ya private schools. I have never seen or heard of these graduations in government schools

So those of us whose moms didn't hold graduation ceremonies for us, had bad moms? I'm guessing we were also unfocused and had no desire to advance. Honestly, hii ni ujinga, there's nothing that a 6 year old has achieved to warrant graduation. A cap and gown should only be worn after graduating from University and above! I will give it a very wide berth!

I think those parents slating these 'graduations' are missing the point. We live in a different reality from the 70s, 80s and early 90s when school ended at 3pm and we ran back home to our wire toys.
Nowadays school has become so competitive that passing through every stage of education is an achievement in its own right.
The effect on a young child when their parent misses these events while other wazazi attend can be devastating.
Please do a favour to your children and stop comparing their life now to what you had as a pupil. It can never be the same.

So what changed between then and now? Who made the school environment competitive? Does it add any value to make a class one student feel the pressure of competion? And what exactly are they competing about? Who can color better? Or who can add 1+1 faster? Is it productive to have a 7 year old start feeling pressures of school at the very beginning of their educational journey? If the bar on graduation is set this low, I wonder what kind of entitlements the kids will feel for passing a Calculus class. This blindly following Americans is just pathetic, what was wrong with the old system?

Or the child can altogether miss the ceremony, go for a fun outing instead, I doubt if the child will choose a pointless graduation ceremony over a fun outing. By the way what happens to the kids who dont "graduate", talk about unnecessary pressure! Please do a favour to your children and stop comparing their life now to what you had as a pupil. It can never be the same.

By the way, its "trick n treat day"...how's the going? "There are only two emotions in the market, hope & fear. LOL, I just narrowly escaped some "monsters" chasing me down for trick or treat, I swear I was scared!! Imagine a grown man with a stocking over his face, kwanza black, there's no way I'm talking to you, coz in my mind you are a demon...haha I just cant! Ati the kids wait all year? When did this tradition begin? Naona ni operation vuka mashinani, coz I just cant keep up with Nairobi people. So if they graduate kindergarten, do they also wear a cap and gown to graduate class 8 then high school? Those are too many graduations, watch how kids will feel like they've gotten enough accolades already, and the prestige of a higher education will go down the drain.

Those wondering why 6 year old kids have graduations this days must have encountered their first one after campus.....but try to think about it not so much as the 'melee' that was campus graduation and see it as an initiation (coming of age) of some sort....my two last kids have gone through this and as a parent,i can confidently tell that,it bestowed some sense of responsibility on them.I can also say i find the kids much more focused.I could be wrong! @Iller, Public schools do not have graduations?...You must be a Kenyan citizen by night! @Nabwire, From your post, you've never been near one and therefore you can only say good about anything and bad about nothing ....Neither is this a Nairobi thing.Iko mashinani kwa wingi....give me your e-mail and i will send you pix of my twins in out of this world graduation gowns. They haven't forgotten it many years later and neither has it stopped them from advancing. Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.
