Top Shabaab militant killed in drone strike

In the DN story above Col. Oguna, the KDF spokesman, is quoted as saying that the UAVs that conducted the attack on Abdulahi Ali belong to Kenya. In the article he also confirms that Kenya has in its possession a number of surveillance and attack drones.

I'm quite impressed that we have such technology at our disposal and are able to use it effectively. When did we ever acquire these weapons?

My only worry is that after a few successes killing some Kebab commanders, KDF may be tempted to deploy their UAVs for many more operations within Somalia. There are always risks with this approach and we don't want to end up with the situation the USA has found itself in re Pakistan.

Any opinions on this?

Spin. May be they have some (cheap) surveillance drones and they were involved in intelligence gathering, painting cross-hairs on the target, but the ones that carry missiles/artillery the US only shares with trusted Western allies (UK, Australia, France, Israel ..) smile
Hawa spin doctors wa gava na KDF think everybody is illiterate or something.

While we were busy looting at ground zero..We forgot to ask telcomm companies to track/trace phone traffic in that area.

The Americans were, and that is how in a week they were at Barewa, trying to arrest somebody (where the terrorists were calling), and now this.

What are we doing, parading 2 soldiers and investigating 1. as scapegoats

Kenya has drones?

Yes we do...look at Ole Lenku...

drone 1
n.
1. A male bee, especially a honeybee, that is characteristically stingless, performs no work, and produces no honey. Its only function is to mate with the queen bee.
2. An idle person who lives off others; a loafer.
3. A person who does tedious or menial work; a drudge: "undervalued drones who labored in obscurity" (Caroline Bates).
4. A pilotless aircraft operated by remote control.

It's true that most other international news agencies reported the attack as being carried out by an American craft.

But why would the KDF lie to everyone so blatantly when they know that the same international media could easily pick on this just to ridicule the Kenyan forces?

In this case,I think Col. Oguna is saying the truth. We do have these weapons in our possession.

The Clown may be right. KDF could be having drones. The same way we have F5.
If you stay ready, no need to get ready.
