TB man,

I have no issues to sweep under the carpet with anyone. Like Wendz just informed you, some of us don't even know the tribe of the people we meet. So the issue is not us,it is people like you who need to solve your problems.

Isn't it rather interesting that the people who suffer tribal diarrhoea are less educated and have a habit of 'nataka serikali...'.

TB my ethnicity was not the cause of fighting,it was a bunch of hooligans paid by fools like you. My ethnicity is not the cause of poverty or lack of it in Kenya,it is a bunch of politicians who you support. My ethnicity is not the cause of failing rains,it is another bunch of fools who cut trees willy nilly.

Your ethinicity is not the cause of your loose tongue and poor thinking standards. That is a product of your upbringing and obvious lack of foresight.

So TB,please remove the boogey man from the room and let us talk about the real causes of a failing leadership class.

Its disgusting to reply to threads geared towards tribalism, when will we ever reason as Kenyans and not as people enshrined in tribal cocoons? To be honest whether you are a kikuyu or kalenjin i bet it has never assisted you to put food on the table, whether Odm attended the funeral or not let us be sober and avoid playing in to the political class card coz that is exactly what prompted us in to this mess, for peace and stability to be acquired in this country its starts with me and you btw who has cared to know whether mlefu, leona, mwabili, sukuma etc are from which tribe?we blog as a family and how i wish we could do the same for our country! would we need any politician to tell us how and when to show love to a fellow Kenyan?hell nope! the moment we unsubscsribe from being used as stooges by politicians for their obvious selfish reasons then we shall be almost there. So i appeal to my fellow skerians to desist from fanning hatred and on the contrary preach peace, you can start from here, your place of work, the church, your favourite pub etc and i promise you can make a difference, now reason with me,do you need your area mp to make friends?

danny6 well said. These politicians make us fight yet they dine and wine together..Things may not be as bad as they make us think... just go to the grassroot s..with no internet access... some can't afford radio batteries....they do not even know there is anything called global crisis.....as we shout here..they are more concerned /worried of their next meal..will hatred bring a meal on their table?..build tribal bridges not walls...Lets start it here...

Again a reminder to all of us.

They really dont care!

wawe ODM ama PNU,hata KANU,or Wiper, they are selfish. They dont care wether u kill/burn each other, all they care for is power, money etc.

Although i am in agreement with TB,the nation headline is not helping us much,if we are to heal. but again, they are in business, the headline will determine how many papers they will/will not sell at the end of each day.

but how do we expect those in the village to understand that this tribal thing is not good if we ourselves are practising it here, day in day out?

Please lets be a part of the solution and not the problem.

kindly preach peace and not hatred

Having divergent opinions is not bad,our biggest problem seems to be our inability to agree on a common solution.

Even here in SK people seems to be unwilling to agree on a way out of our current situation. Its good to see most here preaching reconciliation etc,but that will not help. Tomorrow, this media or politician will say this and we will again work ourselves into a frenzy over certain positions,40 posts later we will again try to calm ourselves down with comments like the politicians are eating together while we fight.

The question is can we agree on a common solution for kenya,or is the kenya of the Kikuyu's different from that of the kalenjins.

Example as mtaalam puts it,ther cannot be peace without justice,my question is why can't we agree that the current justice system is flawed and that the CJ is the stumbling block and needs to go to allow for reforms.

Our salvation lies in institutional reforms and a new constitution,we get all this done and we will have a clean starting point. I am also putting my money on the Mpigs to atleast see this reforms through ama risk losing their seats in 2012. ODM has always supported reforms and a new constitution and based on the chatter coming out of the PNU camp, the 2 sides are now singing the same new constitution song and Mutula has given his timetable,I am taking all of this at face value and believing that we will have a new constitution and reforms soon.

Infact from now until the new constitution is put in place,I will treat political happenings in the country as free comedy.

true new constitution for the people by the people is the way out...I wonder if it will ever come..

meanwhile tribal hatred and tearing one another will not bring it... will it?

Infact,at present parliament seems to be the only arm of gorvernment that is functioning to some degree of sanity.

The executive is dead, moribund and ineffective while the judiciary has never really done anything.

Since we're discussing solutions, why don't we follow what the Rwandese are doing? I understand that they have made it illegal to mention one's ethnicity in public. Someone mentioned in another thread how he found employees chatting away in their mother tongue at the workplace. These are some of the things that must stop. Also,is it necessary for our ids to be used as tools of ethnicity? Why do they want to know where my parents come from? There are so many things in our systems that encourage tribalism and these things must change

The root problem to all these problems we are encoutering as a country is because of poverty and our believe is that the politicians have the answer. The politicians are aware of this and have taken advantage. How many kioks are living in poverty yet MK is the head of state? And my fellow brothers from the lake have you experienced any changes in your lifes since RAO become the PM?When Kenyan was burning i saw two politicians at Karen Golf Club winning and dinning together as if nothing was happening in Kenya. One was from MT Kenya and other was from the lake side. This is business and it is we who are paying the price

@Shak,I agree with you.

I also would like to see ethnic language bans in places of work, including government offices. After 50 years of calling ourselves 1 country, there is no reason why someone should claim to not understand Swahili or English.

If our cultures are detrimental to the survival of our country, then lets get rid of them.

to end tribalism this is the solution,

The government should consider changing all our names to kiswahili ones..and this it would begin by destroying all the previous records related to birth and writting new ones with the new names. All our original certificates,IDs and any other documents bearing our current names to be destroyed and issued with new ones having new names.
The government would need to destroy all the documents in its various offices with a mention of tribe and rewrite them differently.
The government to enforce that all school going children to be compusorily taught kiswahili all the way upto the university level... Compusory!!! More emphasis to be put on kiswahili than english.
The government to create an equal opportunity for all irrespective of the region of origin.
Reducing the Mpigs salaries by 90% (to about 100k) so that it is not attractive. This will have the effect of candidates not inciting people against others perceived to be opposition.
Having an effective and working judiciary.

There are people who derive direct benefit from the preaching of hate and SK is not immune from them. Hate is a great weapon in politics. Question is,are we able to ensure they do not cash the hate cheque at the ballot box?

I dont think our politicians, our tribes, our ID cards or anybody is to blame for tribalism in this country...I think WE are the problem.

Why are we bothered by someones tribe anyway? If we chose to embrace the diverse tribes in Kenya, then we'd go very far unlike when we chose to shun the 40+ tribes for us to be united. Changing our names or refusing to talk in our mother tongue is not a solution. Embrace other tribes..and you'll see the beauty of our diversity. Some of us are soooo obviously look alikes of our tribesmen and carry very heavy maternal accents,we cannot even pretend to belong to another tribe even if our names were changed!

Advice is what we ask for when we already know the answer but wish we didn't..

@ leona,

it may help in fact to the extent that we can never imagine. You see after the abolition of slave trade the blacks in the americas who were drawn from west and east africa were rounded up and settled in the Carribeans. if today this guy talks you will not know if it was a Nigerian,Senegalese,Ghanian,a Kenyan,Tanzanian etc. Even the names they use would never tell you about their origin....

We would not expect some of these measures to bear any fruits immediately, but it would be a good start of a long journey to ending a nagging monister.

@ leona,

Actually the population of kenya is about 95% indigenous people. the rest are the whites and the indians.

The waring lot are these 95% and not the 5%. So,let us tame these 95%....

On a different note, today is a Furahiday...what are your plans? I know kililimbi is out...hauna jina huko....leo niko na simu...size ya walkie-talkie..no thief is ever interested in this...

I think the name 'Kiambaa',as given to the place by the 'settlers' must be very irritating to the locals.Someone should tell them to change it?
