March 4th election was really a game changer. Some of the faces we were used to were sent home packing and new faces took over. One of those new faces is Buuri MP Boniface Kinoti Gatobu who happens to be the youngest MP in Kenya right now at the age of 25.

Before he clinched the coveted top job, Boniface who just a volunteer primary school teacher in his Kibirichia Village where he used to earn sh200 a day.

He is a young man who has been making headlines throughout his life. In 2000 he made headlines when he became the top student in his division after scoring 552 points out of 700 in his KCPE.

In 2006, Bonny joined the University of Nairobi for a degree in commerce. He was also a prolific writer and by the time he graduated in 2010, he had been featured in publications of the likes of Nairobi Stock Exchange, Marketing Africa, Institute of Management and Institute of Certified Public Accountants’ magazines.

However, his big break came in 2010 when he scooped the Safaricom award for designing the best marketing plan for Safaricom Live.
A few months later, he hit the headlines again, this time for being among the finalists for a worldwide business award sponsored by World Bank where he was amongst the top five.

And you wouldn’t believe the kind of company’s that has offered him a job only fior him to turn them down. KPMG, Safaricom, Mastermind…..but as Boniface told Living Magazine, he was not ready to take up those lucrative job offers since he had a better calling.

His better calling was to work in the village and help the people of his community…so what did he do? He took up a job as a volunteer teacher.

Today however he has a different title. He is a Member of Parliament! In his new job of five months he has been able to raise more than sh100 million in cash towards the development of his constituency.

All I can say is that Buuri Constituency is surely headed for big things. Even before he was their MP, he had established an educational welfare (Kibirichia Educational Welfare) to assist poor school-going children access textbooks for free!

Through it all, Boniface emerged victorious after seeking the top seat as an independent candidate which means he had to go up against big wigs from his region that were being supported by big parties such as The National Alliance and the Alliance party of Kenya.

And how has life changed since then. “Life has got more expensive now, especially with the travelling which I have to do every weekend. With my Probox I used to spend at most Sh4, 000 to go to Meru and back. Now it is Sh20, 000 per trip with the Prado,” he told The Nation.

His social life isn’t so good either since he can no longer dance as he used to before.

This is so impressive!! After becoming an MP, he is still volunteering as a teacher, all MPs should be forced to watch this. I hope in the coming years, he goes on to the national scene and hopefully runs for President, I would vote for him. But what was the significance of showing him eating sugar cane at the end jamani

Incredibly inspiring. The guy's humility is amazing. And just one more thing....you barely come across men, or even women who have great things to say about their fathers. Here's is an exception!
