I am very surprised at how the media has managed to turn the public opinion against the KDF (through selective and biased reporting/analysis) despite the splendid job of rescuing many people from the mall and also ending the siege. And now, thanks to the wayward press, the only matter that the public is concerned about is that the soldiers drank a few bottles of beer at Artcaffe and also that that they took a few packets of cigarettes from the Nakumatt shelves while on their way out. In case they actually did, then surely it's understandable since they needed some booze and some fags to cool their nerves after battling the alshabab in the mall for days and also after witnessing the unbelievable scale of killings by the terrorists.

And KDF had every right to be at westgate since we were battling foreign terrorists, the same ones they have been fighting in Somalia.

Lest we forget, our boys did a great job as you can see...

lest you forget wanugu and wacucu were very good people in their village. They helped very many people actually more than the ones saved by the Lootenants.

A thief is a thief. You can try call them something else but they were STEALING while families were GRIEVING.

STEALING a packet of cigarettes carries the same sentence as STEALING a bulldozer.

If you try and sugarcoat what these looters did, you will lose that war to Al-Shabab. Tell us who stole, take them to court and lets us see them in jail.

I want you to tell the families of those who died with a straight face that

"don't worry madam, we were stealing for the sake of national security. Those 3 days we were lying that there were hostages were just to make you feel better. By the way, we killed all of those people, but they burned with the mattresses."

Everyone has been shocked at the ruthlessness of the terrorists especially at artcaffe, but fail to appreciate that that is the same kind of fire the KDF were up against during the siege. The al shabbab were even using grenades, but some naive people here think that it was wrong for KDF to have used RPGs against the terrorists. Maybe wazuans would have preferred that the KDF soldiers had walked to the terrorists and begged to handcuff them.

No my friend. Now you're thinking like a kdf looter.

We expected them to respect Kenyans. Those alive and those who passed.
We expected them to show the world that Kenyans are good people with good morals.
We expected them to behave at level better than those that sought to terrorize this nation.
We expected them to tell kenyans the truth not treat us to fake rambo movies.
We expected them to behave like officers and gentlemen.

Instead they behaved like LOOTERS.

They watered down their dignity and pride by that last silly act.

little evil has greater impact on humans than great acts of kindness and we always remember the evil.

So the next time terrorists attack a mall near you we should send 'heroes' like Haji with his ceska pistol and order the evil KDF to stay in the barracks? I think you and alma have been watching too many movies to appreciate what really goes on in a battle zone.

@jaggernaut, no amount of PR spin will change what Kenyans now think of the military. Here are the facts:

The soldiers messed up the whole operation. They killed a GSU man whose job was to fight the terrorists.

They led us to think that they were fighting 10-15 assailants when in reality there were only four of them.

To rub salt onto the wound, for the three or so days after Saturday, the army men were stealing from the scene of a horrific attack. The CCTV video clearly shows that. As in stealing like common criminals: packing stuff into paperbags and bowing their heads as they ran out of Nakumatt.

They lied about 'repartriating' KES 300M. They lied to the commander in chief as well, without batting an eyelid.

They showed a huge amount of disrespect for the dead by blowing up the place to cover their evil deeds.

In short, the military betrayed our trust. For a long time we have held them in high regard for their professionalism. Not anymore.

Congratulating people who showed lack of professionalism and ethics. Setting the bar below the threshold.
