@Poundfoolish....KDF were there with rocket launchers and armoured military vehicles, they were prepared for anything. To be honest at that time no one (hata hapa Wazua) was sure what kind of weapons those terrorists had. The comabt medic is part of the infantry kwa nini awachwe nyuma.
Any other commando units watching that scene must have fallen on the floor laughing.
This would have been what any sensible security force in a country faced with terrorism would do.
1. ascertain the no. of enemies in the building. and this is done by getting info from hostages rescued. to date we are still guessing.. but inference points at about 8 armed men. those who went to the roof top, those who went in through the main door and a small party at the basement.
It is also now clear that some of the gang, mainly the foreigners (from Europe or america) who planned this thing changed clothes and left. From the BBC interview today by an FBI interrogator, he says that group, the thinkers, leaders and planners, are never ready to die for their cause and are the easiest to talk when captured. The other foot soldiers, he calls idiots, are the tough nuts to crack.
2. identify the right team to do the Job. this was an internal affairs thing.. RECCE and RDU were the best to do it. and they had contained the situation.
It these teams had experienced enough gunfire then they would have called in extra help (rangers and palamilitary from KDF) and not the Langata battalion with RPG launchers and armoured carriers?
They also had the British and Israeli commandos ready to help..
Power struggles messed as up
