So France gains nothing from KE except having extra mouths to feed in the embassy?

French President Francois Hollande has invited President Uhuru Kenyatta to the Traditional French Africa Summit scheduled for December 6 and 7 in the capital, Paris.

During the visit, President Uhuru is expected to shed light on the Somalia peace situation and the piracy problem along the East Africa coastline on the Indian Ocean.

The meeting to be held at the French President’s palace, Elysee Palais, would be attended by presidents from across the African continent.

“President Uhuru’s input will be crucial to the meeting because of the strategic position Kenya is at with respect to peace in Somalia and piracy on the Indian Ocean,” said outgoing French Ambassador to Kenya Etienne de Poncins.

Interest in security

He was speaking at the French residence in Nairobi during celebrations to mark Bastille Day. According to Mr de Poncins, French has taken a particular interest in the security of Africa, citing his country’s current involvement in Mali.

He also disclosed that Kenya’s Foreign Affairs Secretary Amb Amina Mohamed has been invited to Paris this October to strengthen the Kenya-French partnership signed between the two countries two years ago.

Clearly, Tanzania is guilty of thumping a bony chest!!

The President has been strategic and has not been unreachable to any nation that works for the good of the Kenyan people and appreciates the role played by external partners in endeavours to uplift the lives of Kenyans and citizens of neighbouring states

It said that the President’s diplomatic policy has been guided by Kenya’s present view of changing geo-political dynamics which entail an understanding of the West and East convergence on world affairs in an ever-changing environment. The statement said that President Kibaki’s visits abroad have been inspired by changing geo-political and economic realities.

The President, at the very beginning, declared that his priorities would be East African integration hence his first international state visits were Tanzania and Uganda that today account for over 50 per cent of our global travel. China and Japan have emerged as strategic development partners of Kenya especially in the area of infrastructure development that has been a key pillar of the President’s agenda

I personally work for an NGO... NGOs and Foreign Agencies have been on the continent doing "good" for the last 50 years but 50 trillion down the line... we are just where we are... perhaps we should strive to "do business" rather than "doing good"
