OK.

Now at least we know that there were actually attackers.

Now for the numbers:

FRONT ENTRANCE
Witnesses place 4 attackers storming WestgatE from the front entrance and wrecking carnage at Art Caffe and Urban. This group is the lot captured in the CCTV footage.

ROOFTOP
Multiple witnesses place at least 2 different gunmen attack from the rooftop where a children’s cooking competition was going on. These freely hurled grenades "like maize" and slaughtered many there according to eyewitnesses.

BASEMENT
A "command and control centre" in an unidentified vehicle driven to the car park some time in advance of the attack was setup. The death of Ghanaian poet Kofi Awoonor, who was shot in his car as he was preparing to leave, confirms the presence of armed gunmen in the basement from the beginning of the assault.

At 2.30pm Witnesses on the car park roof saw at least two men, who they believe to have been attackers, changing into casual clothes near the tent where the cooking competition was judged. At this point there was no police cordon and no screening process for survivors coming out of the mall. Intelligence officials believe that at least two attackers were able to escape in the confusion..Yet another attacker by this witness account escaped later that evening - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P6F1yWAGKhU

Deducing from the above, it's my belief there were well more than the 4 attackers captured in that video. It is clear some got away by changing clothes and melting away with the crowd specifically on Saturday as trapped victims.

@ecstacy, i hope you are in the right career.

There were guys in the building prior to the attacks..
the Mujahideen alerted them by wasting some few bullets in the air (some witnesses said they shot in the air. I kept asking myself why.

those ones helped organise things inside the mall.. probably the reason why the 4 guys in the clip were visiting this one room and also accessed the machine gun and perhaps a sniper rifle plus more ammunition.

Talking of sniper.. count that bastard as thug no. 5 and he was probably neutered in the vent system after going down with 6 soldiers.

The others probably 10 or more could have killed guys changed and walked away.
Now that makes us come out very silly. Doesn't it? Courtesy of our police unprofessional manner.

I also find it hard that the KDF went back to barracks and never realised 2 of their colleagues were missing.. Isn't that strange.. or were they already counted among the 6?

Yerp.

The failures are exasperating and they keep piling as you allude to.

Now, I can see the Army Spokesman has just stated this evening that ONLY 21 out of 85 WestgatE shop owners reported theft. "ONLY"!! nkt

For one incident, this must be a record sum of what NOT to do for a 21st Century Govt. WestgatE will, nay, MUST be the watershed moment in Kenya's consciousness.

Reading these news articles (especially the ones by foreign media as opposed to our own people) and then reading about the greed, corruption and what have you is so frustrating. What needs to happen for the leadership ...no, the people to do more than talk about things then move on to something new? When people report to work everyday, what do they imagine they are expected to do there? Our cops can't protect us and out military leaders can't count, the govt thinks we are kids to be lied to, politicians want to line their pockets and fight in hotels and the journos can't investigate or write a grammatically correct article. Talking to people at home, I get the sense that for most, things are back to normal and it's business as usual until the next tragedy. At this rate, what are we going to leave our kids?

Is it really ukoloni mambo leo? Let's call a spade a spade, our journos haven't done a good job with this story. Maybe the government is limiting what they can say but even if that's the case, the articles I have read so far leave a lot to be desired.
