4WD Vs 2WD Fielder--is it a good choice? Advice a Blank Lady

Hello Wazuans,

I am a lady and as such dont know much about cars.Laughing out loudly I have this fielder that I got at a very very good price. I have two days to decide whether to buy it.

Is there a very significant difference in fuel consumption between 2wd and 4wd or lack of parts that I may experience. The car is a 1500CC but someone was telling me it will consume gas like a 2000cc and I will have trouble getting parts.

Is this true; I wanna make a right decision. Kindly and honestly asking for your insights.

ask yourself: do i need a car with 4WD capability?

If price is right and you need a 4wheeler, go ahead and buy. A 1500cc is a 1500cc and differences in parts is mostly minimal. PS: normal 4WD is different from fulltime ALL WD.

I would go for it if it's Four-Wheel-Drive on demand and it's gearbox is Manual. Why is the price that good do you think?

Do we really have 4WD Fielders?I think you are talking about AWD(AllWheelDrive).That will make your car more stable especially on slippery roads but you will incur more on maintenance & fuel due to additional weight.The parts are available.Unless you REALLLLY need it,go for the 2WD version.

if it were me i would buy the awd if at any time i get to encounter slippery roads to the bundus.

The consumption and maintenance difference is negligible so long as u can reverse park like impunity at buffey park

all said and done consider a $ubaru fore$ter

2WD anytime. 4WD if fulltime katakunywa more. Most 4WD fielders are fulltime not on demand capability

@elma, I have read through all the posts, and I'll admit it leaves you more confused than informed.

I've used both 2WD and AWD/4WD and this is my opinion:
1. Some are even confusing you with AWD vs 4WD. I think that's too detailed for you.

2. AWD/4WD is always better than 2WD in many areas e.g. stability, handling, beating slippery roads etc. Getting stuck in mud will be history to you

3. AWD/4WD will be a little bit (i mean it literally) more expensive to buy and maintain than the 2WD. But this is compensated by the more benefits you will dervice from it.
I MEAN A LITTLE BIT. AND FOR SOMEONE LIKE YOU WHO CAN AFFORD TO BUY, WHAT IS MAINTENANCE, HONESTLY!

4. AWD/4WD is more resale value than 2WD. You'll find more buyers of the 4WD anytime, trust me

5. Fuel consumption for the AWD/4WD is a little higher (I MEAN LITTLE LITERALLY). You can afford this difference, given the benefit you get from the all wheels

6. Once you go AWD/4WD, you will never go back to 2WD. Ask those who have tried, incliding myself.


Buy the car if it is in good condition. Get your mechanic to evaluate it. Good luck.

Thanks everybody for your input. @alphadoti your response is very elaborate and touches on my concern areas.

Yesterday after posting this, I talked to a car Yard Mech n he told me he has maintained such two cars without any difficulty. He also told me that the parts are similar to 2wd fielders apart from the axle which makes it different from the rest; which really is not something you will need to change in years.

He also commented in fuel consumption which he said is very insignificant and almost unnoticeable.
Basically, he advised me that people have that misconception of high gas because most 4wd are historically made to be big engine cars and that does not necessarily mean they consume more (becoz of the 4wd function) but rather consuming to their engine capacities.

This car has 4.0 auction grade ext and b grade interior going for $5200 which I was thinking is a good price.

Now am wiser; i will go back to the drawing board and decide. (yn)
