When he was being interviewed he mentioned that he was fighting a lot of wind and am thinking, dude, WIND? Is it the pace or the talent that makes you notice that a headwind is slowing you down?

Absolutely beautiful!!! What a run!! What a show!! Magnificent pace and amazing finish considering that in the last 2 km he was virtually running solo. At 40 km mark he was only 3 seconds faster than Makau was when he broke the world record so you can imagine how he had to step up the pace in those last 2km to finish 15 seconds inside the old record.

I am also extremely excited for Eliud Kipchoge. I think this guy will do wonders for marathon running. Eliud Kipchoge is something special. He is most remembered for beating Bekele and Hicham ElGuerrouj to take the 5000m world title in Paris 2004 when he was only 18 but there is more to him than that. He holds the 19th fastest time ever ran in 10000m, 4th fastest time ever ran in 5000m and for 3 of the last 10 years he has ran the fastest 3000m of the year. And in only his second marathon he has already set the 4th fastest time ever ran 2:04:05.

I think for the next two or three years he should focus on making serious money. Enter the big money marathons Chicago, London etc and run not only to win but to go for a few course records, stay with the leaders and only chomoka in the last 2km now that he has the track record to know hakuna mtu atamshika. After kindu 2 or 3 years attack the world record, atakuwa ameiva vizuri.

I know Gordon Gekko and others may disagree but I think there are other courses other than Berlin where a world Marathon record can be broken and I think good weather permitting, Chicago is one of those places. That would be one good cheque if you can go to the States and break a course and World record. This guy can do it.

@Kusadikika, Berlin is special in that the gradients are very favourable, the wind factor is very close to illegal on a good day. The only other similar course where one can attempt a WR is Boston, but I think the elevations make it inadmissible for WR. Please also note that the last five WR (including this one) have all been done in Berlin. BTW, WR and big money can't go together, it's one or the other for an athlete. Chicago's other name is the Windy City, so I wouldn't expect a WR there.
