Kenyans need to learn to accept that while Kenya is one, there are also some 42 million different individuals.

As much as i consider Turkana and Mandera part of Kenya, I have never been there, I plan to check out Turkana soon (coz of oil) but I am not really keen to visit Mandera. I have barely been to half of Kenya.

If I were in gava I would not want to be forced to work in some place shingo upande giving substandard services to people who probably believe I am doing a job that could be best done by one of their sons/daughters. People much prefer to shape their own destiny. Thus many civil servants spend their entire working lives killing time in one station or the other while also put alot of effort to see through projects in their prefered retirement locations or where they have settled their families.

The idea of relocating people around the country was hatched by the colonialist with the sole intention of using Africans from one community to spy on the other. Why we have stuck with it is a mystery.

This must change, let devolution allow people to work and live where they have planted their roots. This should include police and other gava employees.

Mind you, much as we would like to think that tribalism doesn't exist with the 'kawaida mwananchi', I know for a fact it does. I have experienced it. There are places in this country where you'll be called 'nywele ngumu' and all sorts of disparaging epithets merely because you don't come from within; others will forever be hatching plots against you in an attempt to make your stay as uncomfortable as possible ndio uitishe transfer uondoke (they see you as an outsider).

The other issue is social. Anyone of us ever taken a trip to Mandela for instance? Now, imagine a cop who comes from Kuria for instance but is posted to Mandera. Given how poorly we pay them, how often do we expect him to visit 'home' and see his family? What is the net effect if his prolonged absence on his kids upbringing? Did I hear anyone mention HIV/AIDS?

Seriously, if a "Westgate" happened at work, the guy in charge of security would be tarmacking now...private sector is merciless.

But I suppose given that GOK appointments are based on tribe not merit...we should not expect much change, or improvement.

ditto

Ours is a country that puts business before security and expects to security when security and safety are not a priority. paradox?

This makes a good argument.

Reshuffles/transfers have been used to 'punish' and in this case its a pure shift of blame. The boss is trying to protect his a$$ by passing the bulk of responsibility. Drastic change from the fearless leader, completly adorned and eager fight.

The unfortunate part is the world is glaring at us. What happens now will account for our reputation.
