Two explosions heard from the scene this afternoon. The clearance operation hopefully will end without casualties.

Gichangi should be replaced. I propose Maj Gen Ali the former police commissioner. If I'm not wrong he was in the intelligence in the army and he's no nonsense. It's time for heads o roll.

Really...If majority of Kenyans think like you, we will never move... He was in the police force for a couple of years...During his stint bribe taking by the the police force reached an all time high... Shame on you

No police commissioner has ever achieved the success of Gen. Ali. None whatsoever, and not in the near future. Take him to NIS, its a good suggestion. But there is no proof that Gen Gichangi is a failure. Im surprised many people dont see that, but instead choose to lambast the polished super-soldier without facts.

Police.....police.....police........and we shall continue suffering due to the incompetence, selfishness and utter lack of patriotsm by members of this force/service. We need a ruthless dictator as IGP, otherwise we shall continue boxing shadows and blaming birds for misfortunes.

I saw guys proposing the firing of Karangi. Well, kenya has never had a more brilliant, active, results oriented, reformist, modern head of forces before. Tonje came close, but not exactly.

I saw Mutahi's tweet, suggesting the firing of Ole Lenku, CDF and NIS director, and no reason was given. How about Omamo?? IGP?? And a retinue of other useless government ministers and officials?? Mutahi can be this shallow too......... Middle class ineptness in crisis........blaming the wrong people all the time.Sad Sad

This picture was taken on Monday afternoon. No roof had collapsed then. Just a burning generator room. Set alight by KDF as it turns out.

Fast forward to Tuesday, when we were 'in control of all floors'. The site was rubble. Check this video confirmation- http://www.youtube.com/w...YI&feature=youtu.be

There are so many questions to be answered at the right time.

we need to get the facts first. like for example, how do we know the terrorists didn't have bombs that they detonated causing the floors to collapse?

When the Govt spokesman says the floors collapsed because of the heat 'due to fire lit by Al Shabaab' I think I error on the Al Shabaab side! If you have to lie, lie with style!!

The issue here is - Is it true Al Shabaab tied hostages with explosives to pillars in the basement? I believe it is but looking at their twitter handle it seems they were unhappy their trap did not take out as many KDF as designed, why? Maybe simply because the KDF decided no hostage would make it out alive anyway so take out the attackers with their hostages and end any new calculated loss of life..

Confirmed: A gaping hole at Westgate Mall's roof was caused by Kenyan soldiers who fired rocket-propelled grenades inside, knocking out a support column. The soldiers fired to distract a terrorist sniper so hostages could be evacuated.

Is there a single hostage who was rescued after the KDF bombing?

this is my view on the "hostages" situation

- the terrorists refused to negotiate

- KDF thought, why would a gunman/terrorist hold hostages if they are not willing to negotiate?

- having lost few of their own due to snipers, they could only conclude 2 things and decided to bring the house down and save massive deaths:-

i) 'hostages' allegation was meant to
lure them into a trap for a massacre.

ii) either there were no hostages, or the
ones that had been captured were
already dead or if any, the
terrorists were planning to massacre
them together with the forces.

as their commander, what would you have done? as someone has been asking, why were they called?

in my view the regular police failed by not preventing this incident assuming they received the intel well in advance. from what i have read, NIS had briefed all those organs well in advance.

What challenge did he face? You can only be judged by how well u handle a situation. Was Kenya involved in any war then apart from the usual peace keeping missions led by the UN? You cant say he was the best because nothing happened in his time. If anything we can say Kanyotu did a very good job

The current General to me has passed thru the fire or wire if you like the failures inland can only be blamed on the police.
