I think Obama is getting ready to put Kenya politicians under the blow torch,if this story is to be used as a pointer. He is obviously very disgusted with the Kenya leadership.

I am really looking forward to this. I think I will watch his Ghana trip and follow it very closely.

Ongeza the Hague dance going on and we might just be hopefully looking at turning the corner.

I've noticed the youth in particular coming in to a workplace with a completely outsized notion of their own value and importance... just a thinly-veiled arrogance. May be the credit crunch induced recession is whats needed to remind us all about the value of hard work.... By Anonymous

Seems kimanderu is a PNUer. Am I losing my mind or wasn't there a racist/tribalist comment attached to his silly comment. Obama is NOT Kenyan not matter what many ignorant Kenyans think. For all his gushing about his father,BO was brought up by his mother & grandmother.

Kenyans did not and cannot vote for an American president. Many Kenyans can't even vote (fairly) for a Kenyan prez! @Kimanderu,did you say Obama was an idiot? what a joke of a human creation you are' if at all you are human. All the things Obama talks about in Kenya and africa in general are factual and yet you dare call him names.

Travel to Korea and any of the Asia Tigers and you might get enlighted. I was in Vietnam two days ago and boy right from war to development. Vietnam at the moment looks like Kenya will be in 500 years to come and that only if we will have not become a desert.

Any country that enslaves its citizen does not deserve anybody's support and Kenya is one such country.

@ kimandere,you are the one who is a idiot you should consider taking some panadol or smthin(sorry!) Obama has the best interest for Kenya and clearly i doubt if you pay attention to what Obama says. He is just saying the simple truth,Kenya has a problem politically and if he comes to kenya it will be like he has 'embraced' the problem,open your mind!!!!!

Obama is like a concerned father chastising his indisciplined child. He's not at all happy with our slow progress of reforms and wants politicians to get their act straight

@Obi-K

You have a point. Checkout an excerpt from his speech in Ghana:

'It is easy to point fingers,and to pin the blame for these problems on others. Yes,a colonial map that made little sense bred conflict,and the West has often approached Africa as a patron,rather than a partner. But the West is not responsible for the destruction of the Zimbabwean economy over the last decade,or wars in which children are enlisted as combatants. In my father’s life,it was partly tribalism and patronage in an independent Kenya that for a long stretch derailed his career,and we know that this kind of corruption is a daily fact of life for far too many.'

Without making any excuses for our failures as a continent,i think Obama got his history completely wrong here. History cannot erase the contribution US made to the tragedy that is Angola,Liberia and Sierra Leone. Remember Mobutu in Zaire, America's key ally in Africa during the cold war? America clearly had a role to play.

Lets face it. If it is in America's interests to see,hear and speak no evil,that is exactly what they will do. However,i accept what he eventually said:

'..Africa’s future is up to Africans'

Its very important to put matters in perspective.Obama is the president of the US(Citizen of the US).He might have a personal view of Kenya but the same has to rhyme with the US overall foreign policy on Africa and Kenya in particular publicly.If you noticed(have noticed lately)his views on Kenya are always tempered with a general view. In truth,our relevance and importance to US lies on our strategic geography(Read gateway).Anything else stems from that. He may have chosen to visit Ghana for many symbolic reasons but the actual reason has to do with their newly found resource together with the others. So even where the US has real interest,Obama could not visit such countries(at least in the initial)for symbolic reasons. My peni mbili hapa.
