I've always insisted that before people vote, they should go to basic economics 101 classes.

Because of this nonsence of jubilee and cord, we now have set in place a perfect example of a tax and spend gov't.

Sure they will blame devolution, the west, the chinese, nusu mkate, coast title deeds and jicho pevu.

The fact is that we now have have classic spend spend spend gov't in place in the hope that we shall spend ourselves to prosperity.

VAT bill and now kidero. He's taxing everything! The media is mum about this and only mentioned parking...by golly, we are in shit

Very true... this will mean high cost of rentals, goods (VAT exempted or otherwise), services basically everything... Rongai songa songeni....

Devilution kweli... but if they can make good use of the money they collect and stop making all these nonsense trips, then may be, just may be we shall celebrate this devilution in some years to come...... Ati UGANDA? Seriously? we should be examples to UGANDA and the likes, not the other way round....

Kama uko na kashamba pahali, it might even fetch better prices as the remaining "upper middle crass" get pushed out of the expensive city....

We chose kutenda na kusema ibelieve now live with it

But seriously I hope a byproduct will be denizens that put a govt/ leaders to task on how they spend public resources. In UK citizens are absolutely outraged when their MP fiddles with claiming receipts with even 10 pounds !!! We might get there faster with the current govt thats taxing everything so ruthlessly
our goals are best achieved indirectly

I'm told countries in the Scandinavia tax as high as 50% of gross income...but the difference is in the HOW.

Bwana Impunity, these taxes are meant to do nothing other than raise campaign funds and increase the perks to Kidero.

There shall be no extra service offered by these people. None!

They will take the money, offer tenders, and eat it.

What has Kidero done for Nairobi lately?

Are the city council thugs in uniform now better? Have they stopped stealing from parking meters? Have they stopped carrying rungus and trees to beat up poor people?

What Kidero is doing here is done by the Mafia. Only that its legalised.

The central gov't is doing the same.

No country survives endless taxation. I don't care what school of thought one comes from. Tyranny or no tyranny, high taxes hurt the economy and increase corruption.

The government should target imports for heavy taxing. Overtime should energise producers and farmers creating employment in rural areas. example is imported rice /sugar/milk products + 500% tax.

death and taxes... people you need to understand that money does not grow on trees! whenever someone promises you something you need to ask yourself... WHERE IS THE MONEY COMING FROM!! stuff costs money and government does not have any money of its own. it needs to raise money in 3 major ways.
1. shareholding of businesses (parastatals and companies like safcom... mafuta?)
2. taxation
3. borrowing!

kibaki exploited most of those ones to some extent but borrowed heavily. Uhuru has taken the taxation route! Just hoping mafuta becomes viable soon (hope its fully gava owned) so that we can relax the tax noose.

capitalists don't care about social benefits. As of now, we know who will be walking away with the dollars. I wouldn't bet on this.
