Doctors are threatening to go on strike over the issue of their payroll being devolved to the counties.

My question is, what is the problem with that? Health is one of the devolved functions and will now be handled at county level. Donge! So shida iko wapi?

What is it that Doctors want? I want to understand their stand and and their argument before I start casting stones. Nauliza nielimishwe.

This thing cant work am at the parliamentary committee for health right now CS Waiguru is here...Dr.Nyikal on the floor now talking about costing and funding...I now totally agree it should be phased pole pole counties that can manage let them go ahead...we have politicised this things...very sad state of affairs...
Lovely Dr.Wambui on my left...looking fly.

I don't understand Gov. Ruto's obsession with the immediate transfer of all the functions to the county governments. If this happens, it will the surest way to make devolution fail.

With regards to health, there are many things be ironed out. For example, procurement of drugs. Procuring hospitals drugs is not like walking into a chemist and getting prescription tablets. That's why KEMSA exists to procure medical materials and drugs in bulk because they benefit from economies of scale.

Again, without a health commission, who will be in charge of hiring, firing, transfers and promotions?

If patch work is done in a bid to please these governors, close sources indicate that medics are ready to resign.

When are they devolving teachers now that doctor's are devolved! We need to see them singing Bado Mapambano at the County Headquarters. National Assembly should also start having rotational sittings at the County's and only meet in Nbi once to pass the national budget. I have never understood why someone should travel 400Kms to a city to represent his people.Very soon Nbi will be a very nice city to live in with very minimal disruptions.

I think everyone including the govt is taking the health services sector lightly and as joke and only a strike will solve this issue. The devolved county govts are presently unable to pay the kanju workers on time, daktari ndio wataweza.....

There should have been a Health Services Commission protected in the constitution in the first place, just like Police and Teachers.

I agree that it is irresponsible to devolve some critical services especially at this initial stages. Devolution should be done gradually.

I wonder how they arrived at the devolution criteria. MoH fully devolved and only KNH and Moi Referral fall under the national governmnet. MOE only devolved early child development (read pre schools) and all others under national government.
Lord, thank you!

It actually has recently emerged that the T.A. never consulted the local medics but instead consulted a single NGO that apparently deals with health matters in the greater E.Africa in regions such as Sudan and Uganda. How they made such a blunder we will never know.

For medics to realise this late that they are in trouble because of devolution is shocking. When the katiba was being debated with many drafts this was not a contentious issue.
