@ Mukiha

It's not that l can't afford Ksh 2000 for bus ticket( infact l fly there often) but these conmen made me believe they were sponsoring the whole thing. Infact l asked the caller to clarify and he told me it was an event in which the press guys would be invited as we were presented with winning vouchers for a full paid holiday.

By the way why don't you pay up and become a member. As a prudent 'would be customer' l asked for references and this caught them offguard. Soon Kenyans will be in the newspaper forming 'Hemmingways victim association' . l bet Mukiha would make a nice chairman for this assciation.

...hmmm.... you get a call from a total stranger....he tells you to go to his office and collect Sh10,000 for free....you only have to listen to some product presentation...you go and at the end you get an envelope containing only Sh5,000..you ask about the rest of it and you are told that the caller was mistaken....what do you do after that?

Do you throw the 5k back at them?

Do you form a 'victims association'?

Do you take the 5k and say thank you?

hhmmmmm........

Guys i think Mukiha has a point. though am not sure bout Hemingways they seem to have the same concept as African vacation club which is Time share.

Back in 06,i too filled a form at a petrol staion and though i was not married i was told to say i was married and and that i 'holiday' frequently to be able to qualify for the draw. That said 2-3 days later i was called and told that i had won a 1 week holiday at Mnarani beach club at the coast or 3 days at Nyali beach. Naturally i was elated i called a chick pal of mine and told her of what had transpired. The presentation was at Riverside drive past Trade bank, which was actually the premises of former VP Josephat Karanja massive place. Now i can understand what Moibutu is sayiing coz this guys cajole almost armtwist and one is not even allowed to step out for a breather,if you do you will not considered for the voucher. The presentation is awesome, there was a sales rep assigned to us and she tried her best to sign us up but i stuck to my guns though my 'wife' had long been sold, they had quite an impressive audio visual presentation. to cut a long story short, got the voucher went to Mnarani for a week,it actually exists though the hotel is a bit on the other end it was nice, would i go again maybe..but like Mukiha said attend the presentation, stick to your guns, take the voucher and go for holiday.

Time share has helped many hotels esp in SA and Egypt to saty afloat esp in hard times as they do not experience high and low season,i think it's an interesting concept but not just for me. Go for it CLK.

These guys are legit and yes they are not related to the hemingways in Mombasa. They are a SouthAfrican subsidiary and what they sell is time share. You pay a lumpsum membership fee which is valid for 10 years to any destination in the world where they have resorts or partnerships with other resort timeshare organizations(currently like 5,000 resorts the whole world).

I'm in a sort of a hurry and will give more info later, couldn't resist a quick reply

@Ric Dees: are you the guy I met at Mtito, then at Voi and finally at Mnarani?

@CLK: What's the name of the group? Is it African Vacation Club?...Hemmingways is just the resort at the coast.

Mukiha's post is spot on. When you get a free 5k why should you make a scene for the other 5k. Take the voucher and run and if you can afford the time share buy it.

This time share thing is like a chama of 52 guys who buy a holiday home where each member owns the home for a week every year. Not a bad concept if you actually value holidays.

I also attended one of their presentation which i must say was 'in your face'.

The only problem with the voucher is that you only go at the hotels convinience and not on yours. Long weekends and holidays are out of the picture

For the average Kenyan you can plan a better holiday on your own for the kind of money they ask for
