Is this another p-scheme? wondering how genuine they are,they have been calling us to go for a presentation,which we went for last evening,they restrict the membership to married professionals with families.
they ask too many personal questions including how much money we earn etc.
Anyone joined this club?

Be wary! Last year l almost fell into their trap. l filled in a form at nakummat and after 2 days was called to their offices in westlands for the ticket 'presetation ceremony'. It was a fuss.

It ended up being a marketing presentation and the guys wanted an immediate commitment fee. They were giving a 50% commision if you pay upfront and no commision if you pay the next day. The 'ticket' l was given was useless since l had to pay for my travel expenses to mombasa and meals. The ticket was meant to cater for accomodation only at a date convinient to the hotel owners.Its time the necessary ministry probed the activities of these ponzi like guys.

Hemingways (www.hemingways.co.ke) is a serious resort...very serious!! And also quite expensive.

I think they have started a time-share scheme. Google 'time-share' to see how these schemes work.

The selling strategy for all time-shares is to call prospects to a presentation. In Kenya it will last about two hours. Then they will try their level best to convince you to purchase the time-share (join the club). At the end,you get a voucher for several nights free accommodation at one of their resorts.

It is serious business,and the offer is clean. You get the voucher whether you join or not...it is their way of thanking you for spending two hours with them.

And no!! I do not work for Hemingways nor do I have shares!! I'm not even a member.

However,I have been invited to several presentations and been given Vouchers to serious resorts at the coast. In fact,right now,I am sitting on one valid in over 100 resorts in South Africa....that reminds me,I should check the expiry date when I get home this evening.....

If you have been invited,go attend the presentation. If you like the product,buy it. If you can't afford it,dont buy. You will still get a voucher for a free holiday.

@moibutu;

Surely,if you can't afford a Sh2,000 return bus ticket to Mombasa,you don't deserve the holiday voucher!!

It tells me that you must have exaggerated the information you gave on the questionaire.

Accommodation is always a major cost in a holiday and when some one offers you free accommodation,you can't ask for more....after all,they could have simply told you 'thank you for listening to the presentation'!!

If you ask me,hotels in the coast will end up being owned by the middle class and upper class of this country on a collective basis. The model of tourist cannot work for ever. Many people have been toying around with this idea. Question is whether we have enough people to spare 10 to 20 m to maintain a hioliday home. I believe they are there.

@Mukiha,this is a different company,Hemmingways Safari Africa,has no connection with the Hemmingways resort in coasto,they claim to be a subsidiary of Vacation Africa based in south Africa and members of RCI group.

@CLK;

whatever the case,there is nothing to worry about as long as you don't give out your money. Take the voucher & go for your holiday!!

Of the several vouchers that I have been given,three came from AFRICA VACATION CLUB which operates from Sclaters House in Westlands/Parklands. Are these the people you are talking about? If they are,then they are serious!!

Perhaps their marketing style is too 'up-front' for the normally 'laid-back' Kenyan society; but I have been to two of their resorts three times in the last seven years. Take the voucher and go...you have nothing to lose

BTW: my wife gave her details at Capital Centre last Sunday and if they call,we shall go,listen,and take the voucher!!!

@CLK and Mukiha...hmmmmm.....I know the guys at sclaters house. After meeting their people with questionnaires,one INVARIABLY wins...esp when you meet certain income criteria. I went for one of their presentations and really got aggravated - even if the holiday is free - you need to jump through hoops and all sorts of stuff - I personally felt violated and requested them to insert the voucher into some part of their anatomy. They started off as 'leading resorts of the world' and have kept renaming themselves.

Mukiha if you have had luck with them,perhaps its just a few of the vouchers that they give out to get the buy in (same as the pata potea guy who pays someone some winnings so that to observers....anyway,you get the point).

The problem with equality is that we desire that it be with those that have more than us rather that those that have less

@Djinn:

Did you try to use your voucher?

If not,why?

If you think it is 'pata-potea' how do you explain the fact that I have been given 3 genuine vouchers by this group alone and 2 others by another group?

When I get an invite,I go with a made-up mind not to buy (because I find their pricing too high); then I take the voucher (I don't know what Djinn means by ' jump through hoops and all sorts of stuff') and take my family on holiday.

Yes,they started out in the name Leading Resorts of the World and changed (once!!!..they haven't 'kept renaming themselves' as Djinn says) to Africa Vacation Club.
