After the sh7.1 billion loss,it looked quite obvious that it was going to happen.

If you are still excited from yesterday's achievements,then today you have not achieved anything.
It's amazing what you can achieve when you get rid of fear.

@Landrover

Since you seem to be an insider,maybe you should enlighten us whether the retrenched staff were paid their dues as the case should be????????????????????

Apparently its not only Zain ke retrenching.. I have buddies from Zain Zambia,Congo and Ug who are on the hot seat - trying to guess whether they are on the list or not..

I think its a directive from bahrain to cut costs,and lay off...

So those who were arguing that Telecommunication sector,moreso in Africa will not be affected by the recession - here is the answer.

On another note,does this reflect the presence of economic recession in Kenya?

For any company to maximise on profits here in Kenya especially in anticipation of the economic downturn,cutting costs will be inevitable.
Cost cutting is pegged on basically 3 things:Labour costs,Sales overheads and direct costs.
Therefore strongly believe that what Zain has done is expected of other companies soon if not soonest.

As he thinks,so is he

feel sorry for the retrenchees,but especially those who vukad in august last year from safcom to zain for greener pastures. FYI,august is the month in which zain took over from celtel,and enganged in poaching spree immediately thereafter.

chi20,

I thought zain simply rebranded their african investments in africa from celtel to zain the mother company.....they had bought celtel long before this I guesse!!!
