Impressive statistic!Applause Applause Applause

Here's another one, Chelsea are the only side to have recorded more victories than defeats against United since the inception of the Premier League in 1992. The United treble-winning squad of 1998/99 were also unable to beat Chelsea in the Premier League, drawing home and away, before being thumped 5-0 at Stamford Bridge. It seems even before the cash reserves of Abramovich and the emergence of Mourinho, Chelsea had established themselves as one of Man Utd's bogey teams.

Btw i totally agree with @Winston, there might be a sending off in this match.

I think Chelsea controlled the midfield well but the idea of playing without a striker failed terribly. They moved the ball well in the middle of the pitch but there was no one to receive the ball at the front which allowed Vidic and Ferdinand to move forward.....both Keepers didn't really do much in the game. I also do not understand what Mourinho has against Mata, he's arguably Chelsea's best attacking midfielder and probably in the top three in the league. I think he would also have played well at the front as opposed to Hazard who's more suited to the flanks.

That was more of a point gained for Chelsea and two dropped for Man-u...The home team were stifled and Van Persie rarely got the space and time to make those killer strikes. Chelsea will be the happier of the two teams. For the type of strategy chelsea employed they didnt need a striker. Might as well have done a repeat of the Chelsea v barca/ Inter v barca tactics...But we should have seen this coming.

By the way...by not playing a striker...it meant Vidic and Fedinand were left jobless (and as they didnt venture upfield)...that left 10 chelsea players to contain the remaining 8 man-u players.

@Taz - Mata isnt fit enough...and to whom would he have supplied the ball without an out and out striker? Further Mata and even Hazard arent great defensively...and this game needed lots of tracking back.

I think Mourinho talks too much. But his walk was evident on the pitch. Some of his players were anonymous and for John Terry to be given man-of-the-match award speaks volumes. I thought he would bring his Real Madid attacking game, but this seemed like the Inter/Chelsea affairs of old.

His team's midfield was arguably stronger, but Cleverley was still getting the ball and putting in those passes. David de Gea would have taken a newspaper and sat on a stool, that was the state of Chelsea's attack.

I think they were trying to stiffle United, rather than attack United, for in England, there's only one team that can produce counterattack to devastating effect. GGMU!!

Chelsea were the favorites to lift the title due to the Mourinho factor, but their three games this season haven't been convincing enough to warrant that.

@ Winston.....Mata is not injured he only lacks match fitness same as Rooney who played well last night, Mourinho didn't even consider bringing him on for at least 15 min for Lampard who fizzled out later in the game. Anyway i don't think at the moment Chelsea are good enough (kama Barca/Spain) to play without a striker. You were in need of a target man at the front, I'm sure it was a bit frustrating seeing crosses coming in with no one there to receive the ball.

Brewin on the game...

http://espnfc.com/blog/_.../thematch/id/75?cc=3888

Makes sense that Mourinho would want to show that he needs a striker i.e. Rooney, and that Mata can be sacrificed i.e. To Utd, to seal the deal.

Anyway, Mourinho has rightly said it's upto to Rooney now to say if he wants to stay or go. If he's going, his price just went up after yesterdays performance. Even though none of the goalies was well tested, I doubt anyone would have complained if Utd had won all 3 points.

Don't be fooled by the outcome of today's match. Arsene Wenger is full of sh**. He's the reason why I'm not watching any Arsenal matches soon. As always, my problem with Wenger lies with new signings. Will signing Sanogo (free transfer) add the depth that was missing last season? This man is a big joke.

This is the same man who sold Alexander Hleb, Flamini, Van Persie, Fabregas, Nasir, Song and Clichy at the peak of their careers and made the world believe that minnows like Eboue, Diaby, Chamakh, Asharvin, Park Chu Yung and Gervinnho would be worthy replacements.

Call me a pessimist, but Arsenal won't win any trophy this season - unless quality players are brought to Emirates.

Arsene is a holder of a Bachelors degree in Economics from the University of Strasbourg, 1973, so what matters to him is the bottom line, MONEY, not trophies!

So after rejecting a two year contract extension at Ac Milan, Flamini has decided to return to Arsenal on a free transfer. He's not really a World class player but i think at 29 yrs and with his experience he would be the perfect back up for Arteta.

ION, the Court of Arbitration for Sport has dismissed Fenerbahce's appeal against a two-year competition ban, which had been imposed by UEFA. This also means that they will not play in the Europa League which is usually the case when a team gets eliminated in the CL qualifying round.

Spurs have acquired Eric Lamela for 30M pounds, paving way for Bale's anticipated 86M pound move to Madrid, 1M more than CR7's price....Levy was clearly intent on having his club associated with breaking the world record deal. I'm sure Ronaldo will do everything in his power to show that he's better and worth more...

Wenger has finally made a signing. Flamini’s return to Arsenal has been met with mixed emotions—some fans are very happy about his second coming while others have been unimpressed with the fact that the Gunners don’t seem to want to invest in quality talent out there.

Without further ado, here are the pros and cons of signing Mathieu Flamini:

PROS: He’ll Provide Adequate Cover in Midfield

This is the primary reason why Arsenal need his services.

Abou Diaby has been injured for the longest time. Arsenal’s chief enforcer, Mikel Arteta, is also nursing a thigh injury.

With Francis Coquelin shipped out on loan, the Gunners are desperately light in midfield and can only call on the services of Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere to play in the double pivot, two players with injury records of their own.

Flamini is a natural defensive midfielder with vast Premier League experience so he won’t be expected to go through any adaptation period.

His Versatility Can Come in Handy

In Arsenal’s run to the Champions League final in 2006, Arsene Wenger placed his faith in Flamini to do a job for his team at left-back.

The Flanimal embraced his new role and performed admirably before losing his place to Ashley Cole in the final at Paris.

In his days at AC Milan, he was used as an emergency right-back and even though he lacked the attacking instincts and crossing ability of a full-back, there were no issues with his defensive side, as he ravaged opposition wingers in his spells as a make-shift full-back.

At Arsenal, the injuries keep ramping up in several positions and that trend hasn’t stopped this season. Flamini will provide perfect cover in midfield as well as for the full-back positions.
He’s Free
As the saying goes, the best things in life are free.

A player of Flamini’s quality would arrive at the Emirates for nothing and Arsene Wenger has to be heralded for convincing him to sign on for a second spell at the club.

He would not expect to walk into the first team but he arrives as a free agent, which is good for the club’s coffers as they would not be touched yet again.

CONS: There Are Better Defensive Midfielders out There

If you’re left with a choice to purchase one defensive midfielder from a list containing Asier Illarramendi, Luiz Gustavo, Mathieu Flamini, Lars Bender, and Marouane Fellaini, the Frenchman would be the last player you would probably consider.

That clearly means that a club such as Arsenal, with the resources at their disposal, should be going for the other available players on this aforementioned list.

This is the same team that had a £40million + £1 deal rejected for Luis Suarez. With £40m, the Gunners can buy any midfielder on that list and there will be excess change left.

A Sign of Desperation

Arsene Wenger had the entire summer to find a defensive midfielder, but he chose to fold his arms as many players slipped past him.

Following a shocking home defeat to Aston Villa, the manager is now on a trolley dash to sign talent from Europe.

It’s a shame to see that he has gone for another cheap option like Flamini.

His Arrival Doesn’t Justify Francis Coquelin’s Loan Move to Freiburgr

Arsene Wenger had assessed his squad for the 2013/14 season and decided Francis Coquelin wasn’t going to be a part of it so he consciously decided to let him out on loan to Freiburg.

Signing Flamini clearly means that shipping Le Coq out was a poor piece of judgment from Wenger, as it was glaringly obvious that Mikel Arteta would need cover in the wake of any injury, but he failed to do that.

Now he has rolled back the years to sign Flamini when he should have left Coquelin in the squad all along.
