I seriously dont understand all this online activism. IMO, we need the West for markets of our products but for capital, China is the place. Who knows for a fact what the loan terms are between the West and the East? I would be surprised if the funding from the West is cheaper than China.
In the meantime, let Kamwana exercise his constitutional mandate of sourcing for funding...
The Katiba gives the national government powers to borrow through parliamentary legislation. Maybe we need a referendum to change that
Quote:Borrowing by national government.
211.
(1) Parliament may, by legislation—
(a) prescribe the terms on which the national government may borrow; and
(b) impose reporting requirements.
(2) Within seven days after either House of Parliament so requests by resolution, the Cabinet Secretary responsible for finance shall present to the relevant committee, information concerning any particular loan or guarantee, including all information necessary to show—
(a) the extent of the total indebtedness by way of principal and accumulated interest;
(b) the use made or to be made of the proceeds of the loan;
(c) the provision made for servicing or repayment of the loan; and
(d) the progress made in the repayment of the loan.
Meanwhile, lets come down and:
*Enjoy the 25B 'Chinese' Thika Road.
*Wait for the 400B 180kph 'Chinese' Standard Gauge Rail
*Hold our breath for the 30B 'Japanese' Mombasa Port expansion
*Marvel at the 3B 'Belgian' E-government project
Maybe we also need a flagship project from IMF and World Bank.
