Average cost of standard railway gauge from Mombasa to Malaba!

The media has been misleading a lot on this project, some say its gonna take KES. 20 Billion, one journal claims KES. 120 billion and yesterday I had that UMK got over KES. 320 billion for the said project?

Can 20 billion shillings reallt construct even the metre-gauge from Mombasa to Nairobi?

I suspect the wildlife protection is an loss Insurance to the government in advance, the SGR line passes through a massive wildlife corridor (Msa to Malaba) and we should anticipate great losses of Our wildlife.

Will this SGR be constructed along the path of the Lunatic Express or will it take its own course?
Will the Lunatic Gauge be uprooted henceforth or left to rote(spl)?

The document talks of Mombasa - Kilifi - Kwale - Taita - Taveta - Makueni - Kajiado - Machakos and Nairobi. Am just having question marks about Msa - Kilifi - Kwale ...which rout is this?? Anyway once the project succeeds, it will make a lot os sense if we have a functioning commuter railcars since it will make a a lot of sense for one to work in Nrb and live in Nakuru , Machakos, Kajiado environs.

The Kilifi/Kwale route I think is not the trck passing thru the actual towns but it will lip the counties...what I dont understand is whether the SGR will run over the current Lunatic line or it will be on its own new route.

But still they can superimpose both the tracks on the same route without uprooting the other.

The Lunatic line should be retain purely for its sentimental value...the man-eaters story and the like.

What do u think?

The only thing I still dislike is that the line will still be powered purely from diesel locos and and electric.

It will be a different rail track , the existing Kenya- Uganda rail line is a narrow gauge line and cannot interchange or be connected to Standard Gauge Rail.Therefore if Uganda , Rwanda want to be connected to the new line they will also have to adapt the standard gauge railline. This is where the Chinese will reap benefits.

Take this to the bank: This project has to be complete by 2017 – even if it is the Mombasa- Nairobi section, otherwise uhuruto should not expect second term. It will be built alongside existing lunatic corridor– RVR concession contract is protected by law so they will continue using lunatic and even compete with the new SGR once commissioned…

I like the business acumen of these RAO friends...they know the countries in the hinter-land will not have enough money to move with speed the Kenya is moving with and construct an SGR.

The shs425Billion from China will cover a number of projects including the standard gauge railway to Malaba and wildlife etc...
