Response to Makau Mutua: Well I don't pride myself of your Education level, but on literacy, I chose a different meaning. While I struggled to pay rent I also made some savings. From those savings I am paying Higher education fees for the son of a slum shopkeeper - who supported me with credit of even a matchbox to light my stove.....beyond that a hardworking neighbour of mine has been spending alot of money on cancer treatment as a result his daughter in high school and son in University have been in and out of school...I do not know him, but I identify with the challenge he faces - I have since taken up the role of ensuring they complete school - As for the shopkeeper I have been investing on his business - on 11th August we will open his vegetable and cereals mini supermarket - That is what literacy means to me. If that is being barely literate, I gladly agree with you. As for diaspora,my work and that of my team, and not our words will be the best response
