I thought the term was extended coz of the strike......2 weeks this term and 1 week in 3rd term!!!
Is the leave during holidays automatic?I thought as part of their employment contract they are only entitled to 21 days annual leave, maternity leave, paternity leave only.During holidays they should report to school and stay there till 5 pm without the pupils.
Exactly!!! Holiday time belongs to the employer, not the employee. It's only that the government cannot get them anything meaningful to do during that period. Now they have! Teachers are entitled to 21 days leave like everybody else. Just because they are paid for doing nothing during the [other] holidays, they should not expect to be paid MORE when there is work to do. They will recieve a salary in August, November and December!
Actually if I was a policy maker, teachers would be teaching adult classes during the holidays at no extra salary. Anyone who doesn't want to teach takes leave - subject to the usual 21 days annual limit. If they require any additional training to deal with 'gumbaru' students, I would gladly facilitate it. That way we have a more literate population and less idle/drunk teachers!! Never count on making a good sale. Have the purchase price be so attractive that even a mediocre sale gives good returns.

If there's any gov employee who gets free money, its the teacher. 3 months of paid holiday I even wonder when they take their 21 leave days. "There are only two emotions in the market, hope & fear. The problem is you hope when you should fear & fear when you should hope: - Jesse Livermore

Then the government can go slow on paying them!
Reminds me of a fellow who was doing his own things and when he sees the boss he pretends he is working. The boss told him "You pretend to work, I pretend to pay!" Never count on making a good sale. Have the purchase price be so attractive that even a mediocre sale gives good returns.

Kwani is their salary calculated by subtracting the 3 months salary then the remainder spread evenly over the 12 months?

Which reminds me, why exactly was this department previously placed under the culture & social services ministry when education is its proper and natural home? I hope this was remedied in the new dispensation.
