The military pay cut
Police go slow
Nurses strikenotice
Doctors delayed salaries
Teachers issues with gava

Me thinks this wage bill will make us grind to a halt very soon. Gava is broke.
Me thinks increasing Mpigs salos was a big mistake they set a bad precedent for the rest.

Come srowry. All will be well. The darkest hour is just before dawn. I think this is the kind of challenge the dynamic duo needed so that they stop cheka chekaing and holding hands and telling jokes and get down to the real serious business of governing the country. I think they will rise to the occasion. We will be well.

Agreed. Pigs set a very bad precedent. And there's no way you'll convince the lecturers and the doctors to call of the strike without digging deeper into the public coffers.

@ kamundu and Innovate, I agree with you. One of the first mistakes Jubilee made was to undermine the SRC by agreeing to the increased salaries for the Pigs. Prior to that, Ms. Serem and her commission had done a very good thing by attacking the wage bill problem starting from the very top.

I think SRC's plan was this: reduce the salaries of the big shots in government then win goodwill with the public. Step two would have been freezing pay rises and eventually retrenchments/ voluntary retirement in some areas of the public service. I'm sure it would have been easier to sell these kinds of austerity measures had they been allowed to take their top-down approach.

Unfortunately, the politicians messed everything up so nobody believes the government when they say there's no money for pay rises. Now the SRC has become like the IEBC in losing all the faith that Kenyans had in them.

Remember that we also have 47 other governments which seem determined to outdo the mama na baba in unnecessary expenditure.

On the political front, Jubilee is busy antagonizing the populace. Makueni saga, teachers' and medics' salaries, overtaxing the middle class and recently the eviction debacle in the Naivasha have only served to inflame passions among those affected. And I will not even mention the continued persecution of the CORD leadership.

When I look at the situation we are in, I see a veritable powder keg.
