2 things.
i) I think he wants to take a run at the Presidency, to do that, he needs to emerge from RAO's shadow, not appear like a lackey
ii) Going abroad with no substantial agenda, no appointments with heavy hitters (serious investors, senior US leadership) just shows these guys are simpletons - they live in an era where they think frequent flying to the foreign nations is sophistication. I am glad it appears Kidero is above that. These trips are a nuisance to protocol people and an embarrassment to Kenya and the governor's office.
Didn't people read the Wikileaks cables? 'Oh dear here they come again to waste our precious time'. Travelling to a foreign country only to be snubbed or stuck with junior government functionaries (as happens many times though nobody will admit it) or get inconsequential 5 minute meetings is humiliating.
