I think the Government should be very careful about how it handles the land issue in Olkaria between the competing interests of local community and Commercial interests.

There are many resources that will start being exploited in the near future. Coal in Mwingi, Oil in Turkana, Gold in Migori etc. If the local communities do not feel advantaged by the resources this wealth will end up being a curse than a blessing.

If i got it right it was the police who were chased away, same people who were paid to protect the guys who destroyed their homes....they didn't have a problem with Ole Lenku and Sakuda. I think this issue was mishandled by Kengen, this people might not be the genuine owners of the land but they deserved to be treated in a better way.

Goverment has pledged to rebuild their houses.
Makes me wonder where the difficulty was in rebuilding before burning/eviction.
Our tactics are often Neanderthal and crude.

My friend here is talking of the govt delegation which includes the CS. Police can be hired as they were on Friday.

Surely should the development of geothermal power be abandoned just because a few squatters have refused to obey a court order and move? How come I never see this kind of sympathy when Nairobi residents lose millions in demolitions meant to pave way for infrastructure?

My friend this Olkaria story between Kengen and the Maasai has been there for quite some time now but kama kawaida you want to turn it into some sort of supremacy war between Jubilee and CORD....its all about looking for anything to discredit the govt. IMO i think it was wrong for the police on Friday ) to just stand by and watch houses being burnt and destroyed courtesy of Kengen but then again ni utumishi kwa wote.

I think @Kusaidika started it so well....
