To be honest,i wasnt impressed by its performance though there almost double on capital expenditure this year (hopefully they can translate that into profits in future)... From the summary on performance highlights compared to 2008

Gross Turnover (-1%)
Sugar Production - (-14%)
Profit after tax - (+24.5%)
Rendement - what is this? (-0.3%)
Earning per share - (+0.26%)
Net cash from operating activities higher than last year.

Income Statement
Revenue - lower
operating income - lower
Cost of sales - higher
Gross profit - lower
Expenses - lower
Profit before Tax - lower
taxation - credit
Profit for the year - higher

Seems our 'profits' this year are only supported by cost cutting and the tax credit. This is not sustainable in the long run especially with all the major capital expenditure in the future to diversify.

@Njunge - Turkwell produces much more than Mumias... also the transmission lines/infrastructure was built to support Turkwell's production...

Mumias production is being sent on reinforced lines to Nakuru & Eldoret. I doubt it gets to Nairobi. Of course,unlike 'discrete' goods... you can't 'mark' electrons...

My point is that most (larger) industries that run at NIGHT are in Thika or Nairobi or Athi River. For the full (better) use of electricity at night,we need to develop users in Western/Nyanza.

Nairobi is better supplied by the (to be developed) RV geothermal plants that produce steady power & can be varied depending on demand.

I am yet to get your point.The transmission line from MSC to where it connects the national grid is less than 40Kms.Would that still count?secondly,i believe power consumption in Western and Nyanza exceeds MSC capacity by far.Consider the fact that Nzoia,West Kenya,Kibos,Muhoroni,Chemelil and Sony sugar are 24 hour industries and are in this region.(of course there is lifeless Pan Paper mills,Webuye).

Turning off a diesel generator takes a key,depressurising and raising a steam plant is a different ball game.......In all fairness,it is easier to keep the steam plant running than the other way round......and don't mess me up...lol
