By the way failing to vaccinate your children with the standard vaccines i.e bcg, polio, tetanus, etc. is an offence.

Eehh, what offense?

Only about 80% of Kenyan children (2 years old and below) are fully immunised as per KEPI.

Most of the mothers who deliver at home do not take their children for immunisation.
Set out to correct the world's wrongs and you will most certainly wind up adding to them.

And if this is the case, how do you compare the two children?

Infact let me pose a question to the recent Yellow-fever vaccine 'recruits'.. I'm one of them. Noticed any change?

My question exactly. If we are not facing some of these diseases eg Polio, why do we need the vaccine?

We are still facing polio, recently there has been cases of wild polio virus in Daadab refugee camp hence the on going polio immunization. And the problem is not likely to go away soon because immunization coverage in Somalia is very low (If my brother is in trouble so am I)

Same scenario with measles too. In 2011 there was an outbreak pande za Isiolo, parts of Meru and Tharaka.

@ Maka. Forget about those baby friendly vaccines. Forget about them kabisa. Dont even use any of those which are available with doctors because they are preserved with Mercury. Take your baby for those KEPI ones - the ones for which you must go to the hospital on a certain day and time coz thats when they are opened. That way you will save your children from challenges such as autism and ADHD etc..... And dont give your children unnecessary vaccines like Flu. Flu ni homa tu. Give them freshly squeezed orange juice. Best

Euge, u mean flu sio important? at this point am getting lost. so what should bby be given. Not basing it on baby friendly cz kama flu hakuna baby friendly.

A child gets a flu vaccine under the 9 recommended vaccine shots between 0 - 9 months. There is one called the Pentavalent vaccine which is given in 3 doses. At 4 weeks, 6 weeks and I think 3 months. it is called the pentavalent vaccine because it is a vaccine against 5 diseases and Influenza is one of them.

I also believe the best vaccine and medicine for flu is natural methods. Fill your child with oranges, fruits, lots of vegetables and water. Literary, an apple a day keeps the doctor away.

The necessary vaccines as outlined by the Ministry of health are very important and must be given to every child.

Plus building the child's immunity is far much better.

The other problem is the preservatives. Can have adverse effects on the child in the long term.

I believe its BEST to do the vaccines recommended by the MOH, those are the most important...hizi zingine is just the hospital trying to sell and make money...just like those many miller who want to sell you all kinds of porridge flour for your little ones

I asked one doctor if this vaccine was necessary for children and he was kind enough to tell me that what we have in the market, is not helpful. A kid is given a vaccine to protect it from 5 strains of the flu virus yet there are 1000s of them. so for this one, i go with my concoction that one @Tony someone of old SK said he wouldn't feed his dog with.... but it does work for me - lemon/ginger/honey and sometimes garlic.

On the rest of the govt recommended vaccines, i would rather have them given and it turns out to be a fad than be caught unawares. Some risks are not worth taking.

Na hizo "baby friendly" are expensive.... wah!

@Mukiri et al, vaccines prevent these diseases, polio had been wiped out of most places in the world because of vaccination. You need what is called herd immunity to protect these diseases from spreading ie a minimum number of people in a population that you need to vaccinate so that even if not all of them are vaccinated the disease cant spread. Look at the places where polio turns up, its places where vaccination programmes were disrupted for example by conflict.

And something that your doctor doesnt tell you often is that there are two types of polio vaccine. For one of them about 1 in 2 million people that receive the vaccine shed a more virulent polio virus in their faeces than the attenuated vaccine tehy received . NB it does not affect the vaccinated person himself, but it can infect other unvaccinated people out there, so here is an example of why you really really want your kid to have a polio shot, otherwise google what it does to victims in images

I can afford heroin, cocaine and a host of other 'drugs' for my kids... but wouldn't consider giving it to them.

It is not 'what you can afford', it is 'what is good for them!' ... The question I put across, what are the effects, intended and side-effects of these vaccines? Babies have been reduced to a vegetative-state, others lost their lives etc Not to mention we now have a weaker, more cancer-prone generation in comparison to our fathers... Mimi nashuku hizi vaccines ZOTE!

And you wonder why we have a generation that wants to own everything the parents own instantly??

Kwanza those boys who were circumcised at the doctors with anesthesia??

Agreed its not what one can afford, its about what is good, spoon feed your children, give them life on a silver plate and still expect them to go hustle once they are done with college??
Dont worry especially the boys will add onto the statistics of J-lo, Mariah Careh, Tina Turner etc boyfriends/husbands, a generation of men.. oops boys who want women to take care of them, no spine no balls....

That autism connection to vaccines is just that ... a rumor! People who choose not to vaccinate their kids shouldn't let them outdoors at all. They are the ones who end up spreading diseases like whooping cough, measles, polio all over the place.

The vaccines given after 9 months are not necessary IMO they are the ones associated with autism. And yes, they will make you believe that these are just rumors, but remember they are in business. Meds may react differently to different kids.
